We might feel empowered because we live in the age of an information boom, but in the absence of an independent, fearless and conscientious press we could be caught in a web of propaganda, a string of lies and tied in knots of deceit.
"I do not want to boast (about) anything. The court's judgement has to be respected. I am glad that the court has pronounced unambiguously. All the massive propaganda which was being done against the UPA was without any foundation. The judgement speaks for itself," Singh said.
Besides Ruias, the court also acquitted Vikash Saraf, one of the Essar Group Directors, Loop Telecom Promoters I P Khaitan and Kiran Khaitan, three companies-- Loop Telecom Ltd, Loop Mobile (India) Ltd and Essar Teleholdings Ltd.
A special court today asked BJP MP Subramanian Swamy's plea to bring more material in support of his criminal complaint against industrialist Ratan Tata and others in connection with the 2G spectrum scam case.
A special court has allowed DMK leader Kanimozhi, an accused in the 2G spectrum allocation case, to travel abroad for five days this month.
The complaint, filed before special judge O P Saini, alleged that the CBI "purposely" left out Tata, his group companies, Radia, and some others. The court has put up the matter for consideration on January 11.
A public interest litigation (PIL) was today moved in Delhi High Court for directions to CBI to make several subsidiary companies of Maxis Communications as accused in the Aircel- Maxis case involving former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran.
According to sources, the DoT had issued a notice on December 22 and asked RCom to pay within a month. RCom had applied for liberalising its 800 MHz spectrum in 20 circles a few months back.

CBI on Tuesday argued before a special court that first-come-first-served (FCFS) policy was followed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in allocating spectrum licences to eligible applicant firms during 2003-07.

"The CAG report on 2G and other issues," Chidambaram said, "clearly ...hurt the Congress party. I think 2G could have been handled differently in the sense that the Prime Minister could have put his foot down and said I am sorry, I will not let you go forward with the first come first serve (FCFS) route.
In her reply filed before Special CBI Judge O P Saini, who is exclusively holding trial in all 2G scam related matters, Kanimozhi said the agency has filed this application for summoning additional witnesses at a "highly belated stage" when the recording of evidence has already been closed.

Telecom Secretary MF Farooqui said the total value of the bids was Rs 54,600 crore after 35 rounds of bidding. "Activity is on in eight service areas. Bidding will continue tomorrow morning," he added.
The fourth day of 2G spectrum auctions has drawn to a close and the numbers has the government grinning from ear-to-ear.
