While patrons are not charged for a meal, they can contribute whatever amount they feel in a donation box kept at the restaurant. The funds are used to provide meals to the needy.

A 2.5-acre plot opposite the restaurant is used to cultivate organic vegetables for the meals. Customers are open to buy farm produce as well, which helps in generating additional revenue for the restaurant.

The restaurant has been set up by Snehajalakam, a pain and palliative care unit associated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

“If you are hungry, you can come and eat here. There won’t be a cashier at the counter to settle your bill. Your conscience is the cashier. You can drop whatever amount you want to, kept at the box on the counter.
