Neha Singh, a faculty member at Galgotias University, has emerged as the face of the controversy that unfolded at the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi after a robotic dog displayed at the university's stall triggered questions about its origins.

The university was reportedly asked to vacate its exhibition space at Bharat Mandapam following the dispute.

Singh, who represented the university during the presentation, came under scrutiny after claims were made about the RoboDog being developed indigenously. Questions were soon raised about the accuracy of those assertions, prompting criticism and online backlash.

In response, Galgotias University issued a statement apologising for the "confusion" caused during the summit. The institution said its representative at the event had been "ill-informed" about the technical origins of the product. It attributed the situation to Singh's "enthusiasm of being on camera," stating that she was not fully aware of the device's technical background.

“We at Galgotias University, wish to apologise profusely for the confusion created at the recent Al Summit. One of our representatives, manning the pavilion, was ill-informed. She was not aware of the technical origins of the product and in her enthusiasm of being on camera, gave factually incorrect information even though she was not authorised to speak to the press. Understanding the organisers sentiment we have vacated the premises,” the fresh statement of the Galgotias University read.

Speaking to news agency PTI, Singh clarified that it was not her intention to suggest that the robotic dog had been indigenously developed. "The controversy happened because things may not have been expressed clearly," she said. Acknowledging her role in the episode, she added, "I take accountability that perhaps I did not communicate it properly, as it was done with a lot of energy and enthusiasm and very quickly, so I may not have come across as eloquently as I usually do."

Addressing reports that the robotic dog had been removed from the expo stall, Singh said the device had been taken back to the university's laboratories for academic purposes. "It was procured to be in the labs for the students to do all the anatomy, all the research and development. It is there," she said, while also urging attention toward other AI applications developed by students that were being showcased at the pavilion.
