The wall and shed collapsed at the Cuttack Railway Station

A portion of a wall and a shed of a platform at the Cuttack railway station in Odisha collapsed during the redevelopment work that is currently ongoing, officials confirmed, as per news agency Press Trust of India. The incident took place on Wednesday.

PTI reported that no casualty was reported in the incident and that train movement at the station was temporarily affected. An officer of East Coast Railway (ECoR) said that the roof of a shed caved in due to the wall collapse at platform number one. The shed fell on the railway tracks, the officer said.

“During redevelopment works at Cuttack railway station, some construction work was being carried out with adequate safety precautions. Unfortunately, at 3.45 pm, an old wall collapsed onto the platform, temporarily hampering train movement on Platforms 1 and 2,” the ECoR said in a statement.

Restoration work is already in progress, and the lines are expected to be cleared soon, it said. A video of the incident surfaced online, showing workers clearing the debris that was created due to the wall collapse at the railway station.
