Vile Parle Election 2024: All about the constituency, party-wise candidates, past winners and more

Located in Mumbai Suburban district, Vile Parle assembly constituency is one of the 288 constituencies of Maharashtra which goes to polls on November 20. It is a part of Mumbai North Central Lok Sabha constituency along with five other assembly constituencies namely Kalina, Chandivali, Kurla, Vandre West and Vandre East.

Constituency number 167, Vile Parle was established in 1962 and is currently represented by Parag Alavani. It is an unreserved constitueny where the Congress party has tasted success the most.

In Maharashtra assembly elections, the Congress party has had the maximum victories from Vile Parle constituency. The grand old party won the first three consecutive elections (1962, 1967 and 1972), then it tasted success in 1985 and won two back-to-back polls in 2004 and 2009.

Who are the key contenders?

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has once again fielded incumbent Parag Alavani from Vile Parle. Sandeep Naik will contest the elections on Shiv Sena (UBT) ticket.

Alavani, who holds LLB degree, is eyeing his third consecutive win from Vile Parle, which is a general category seat.

Vile Parle constituency: Past election results

In 2019, BJP's Parag Alavani emerged victorious from Vile Parle assembly constituency by defeating Congress nominee Jayantibhai Siroya. Alavani won by a margin of over 58,000 votes. MNS candidate Juilee Omkar Shende had garnered just over 18,400 votes.

The saffron party had defeated Shiv Sena's Shashikant Patkar in the 2014 Maharashtra assembly elections by a margin of over 32,400 votes. Congress' Krishna Hegde managed to win a little over 24,000 votes.

It was in 2014 that the BJP opened its account in Vile Parle assembly constituency with Alavani's win.

2024 Vile Parle election & results dates

The Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) are constituents of the MVA along with the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar). The opposition bloc is locked in a close fight with the ruling Mahayuti front in the elections to the 288-member assembly. The Vile Parle constituency will go to polls on November 20, along with all other seats in the state. Votes will be counted three days later, on November 23.
