In a remarkable feat of courage and determination, 14 women mountaineers of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), led by Assistant Commandant Bhanita, successfully summited Mount Nun in Ladakh (7,135 meters).
The achievement underscores ITBP's legacy of mountaineering excellence and marks a significant milestone in the journey of women empowerment.
A grand flag-in ceremony to celebrate the All-Women Mountaineering Expedition was held on Saturday at the ITBP Headquarters. Director General Rahul Rasgotra highlighted the expedition's success, saying, "This historic achievement not only adds a new chapter to ITBP's glorious legacy of mountaineering excellence but also stands as a landmark in the journey of women empowerment."
Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, the chief guest at the event, honoured the courageous mountaineers with cash awards, lauding their grit, determination, and indomitable spirit.
The ceremony was a fitting tribute to the perseverance, teamwork, and skill displayed by the women in overcoming the formidable challenges of one of the highest peaks in the region.
The expedition, meticulously planned and executed, showcased the exceptional capabilities of ITBP's women officers, inspiring a new generation of mountaineers and reinforcing the force's commitment to pushing boundaries in adventure and exploration.
