The death toll in UP's Hathras surpassed the 110 mark -- where a stampede at a religious gathering saw one of worst mass tragedies in recent years. Women and children formed bulk of the crowd gathered to pay obeisance to a godman named Narayan Hari.
116 people have lost their lives in Hathras stampede, reported news agency PTI quoting Aligarh Range IG Shalabh Mathur.
The incident happened at Baba Bholenath satsang in Ratibhanpur. Several women and children have been rushed to the nearby Etah medical college and all are undergoing treatment.

As per the initial reports, flashed out around 5 pm, Hathras District Magistrate said around 50-60 were killed in the stampede. The DM told reporters that a figure of nearly 50-60 deaths was reported to him by the doctors. Permission for the event was given by the SDM and it was a private event.
Accordign to the lastest TV reports, an NDRF team is en route to Hathras and will join the ongoing rescue operations.
A team consisting of ADG Agra and Aligarh Commissioner has been constituted to enquire into the cause of the incident, said official sources.
President Droupadi Murmu expressed her grief on Twitter: "The news of the death of many devotees including women and children in the accident in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh is heart-rending."

PM Modi also condoled the deaths in the Hathras stampede while addressing the Lok Sabha and said, "I assure everyone through this House that the victims will be helped in every way."

UP CM Yogi Adityanath has expressed condolences to the bereaved families of those who died in the accident in Hathras district. He has also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. He has directed the district administration officials to immediately take the injured to the hospital for their proper treatment and to speed up the relief work at the spot.
Yogi has given instructions to investigate the causes of the incident under the supervision of ADG Agra and Commissioner Aligarh.

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi posted on X: "I express my deepest condolences to all the bereaved families and hope for the speedy recovery of the injured. The government and administration are requested to provide every possible treatment to the injured and relief to the affected families."
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his grief, "The accident that happened in Hathras district is extremely painful...Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is providing all possible help to all the victims."
CMO Etah, Umesh Kumar Tripathi, informed media immediately after the stampede and said, "Twenty seven bodies have arrived at the postmortem house so far, including 25 women and two men. Many injured have also been admitted. Further details will be revealed after the investigation. The primary reason is a stampede during a religious event."
Based on the intial ground inputs, Etah SSP Rajesh Kumar Singh told media in evening, "A religious event was going on in Mughalgarhi village of Hathras district when the stampede occurred. So far 27 dead bodies have been received in the Etah Hospital, including 23 women, three children, and one man. Identification of these 27 bodies is being carried out..."
