Security forces gun down terrorists in J&K's Poonch, days after 'Operation Mahadev'

A gunfight broke out on Wednesday after an infiltration bid was thwarted by the armed forces in the Digwar sector of Poonch during a joint operation

Two terrorist were killed on July 30 morning during an encounter with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

On Wednesday, a gunfight broke out after an infiltration bid was thwarted by the armed forces in the Degwar sector of Poonch during a joint operation between Jammu and Kashmir police and Indian army.

The alert troops saw the movement of infiltrating terrorists in general area of Maldivalan in Degwar sector late Tuesday night, leading to an encounter, the officials said.

The Indian army in a statement said it carried out a successful anti-infiltration operation and eliminated two terrorists.

They said two terrorists fell down after being hit during the gunfight but it was not immediately clear whether they were dead or injured. The operation is on and further details are awaited.

The infiltration bid comes days after security forces killed Pahalgam attack mastermind Sulieman alias Hashim Musa after it launched surprise action codenamed ‘Operation Mahadev’.
