Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday responded to Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir’s recent comment comparing India’s economy to a “Mercedes or Ferrari” and Pakistan’s to a “dump truck full of gravel.”
Addressing the Economic Times World Leaders Forum 2025, Singh said the remark, which drew widespread ridicule in Pakistan and abroad, was in fact an admission of Pakistan’s economic weakness.

He noted that while both nations attained independence at the same time, India has built a robust economy through sound policies and foresight, whereas Pakistan remains mired in stagnation due to its own failures.
Singh stressed that the statement should not be dismissed as mere trolling but seen as a warning. “If we take it seriously and prepare accordingly, India is more than capable of giving a befitting response,” he said.
