Heavy rains continued to lash several parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for a second day on October 16, inundating residential areas and leaving roads waterlogged. Parts of Andhra Pradesh, too, received heavy rains.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said a depression over southwest Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and cross north Tamil Nadu-South Andhra Pradesh coasts between Puducherry and Nellore, close to Chennai, early on October 17.

Kavali in Nellore district recorded a rainfall of 15 cm, followed by Addanki (Bapatla) 14 cm, Kandukur (Nellore) 12 cm, Yanam 9 cm and Atmakur (Nellore) 8 cm, among others in coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Intermittent but widespread rains lashed Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu, bringing neighbourhoods and roads under knee-deep water and leading to traffic congestion besides affecting public transport.

While bus services were affected in several areas, the Southern Railway announced cancellation of four express trains, including the Chennai Central-Mysuru Kaveri Express, due to waterlogging.

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) said parts of West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna and NTR districts were likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall

Andhra chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu told the officials to be on high alert with flash floods expected in some parts.

Reviewing the situation in Tadepalli, chief secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad directed police, panchayat, irrigation and roads and buildings departments to be on alert.

Bengaluru's Manyata Tech Park, near Hebbal on the Outer Ring Road, home to several Fortune 500 companies, was severely waterlogged the previous day following heavy rains that lashed the city.

Videos of flooded roads inside Manyata Tech Park, a 330-acre tech village, went viral on social media. The Nagawara flyover near the tech park was also waterlogged, affecting traffic movement on the Outer Ring Road.
