Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken India’s digital vision to a new level, said Loganathan Murugan, Union minister of state for ministry of information and broadcasting, on October 30.

“Today India stands at a defining moment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken India's digital vision to a new level. India is leading the tech world today,” Murugan said during a virtual interaction with Moneycontrol’s managing editor Nalin Mehta at the India Web 3.0 Summit held in Mumbai.

The minister noted that the new emerging technologies have empowered several governance tools for the government such as UPI and e-marketplace ecosystem.

Murugan credited India’s digital growth in the last few years to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and efforts. “Some said implementing digital India's vision won't be possible because many people still don't know how to use their mobile phones. But because of PM Modi's vision, now people have adopted digital payments. I visited a rural area once where I was able to make payments through UPI,” said the minister.

He said the digital revolution is now taking place across the country and has seen adoption across sectors such as health, broadcast and others.

“The revolution has helped plug loopholes. Now if we send Rs 100, the beneficiaries receive full amount because of the digital mission.”

Murugan noted that digital mission, data and digitalization is taking place in the country very rapidly and the government’s efforts have been acknowledged globally. “We are now moving to the next level. IMF also acknowledged, saying India is becoming a leader in digital ecosystem.”
