Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a two-day visit to Japan on the evening of August 28 to hold the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit with Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, ""Prime Minister Modi is embarking on an official visit to Japan on the evening of 28th August. He will be in Japan on 29th and 30th August to hold the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit with the Prime Minister of Japan, His Excellency Shigeru Ishiba."
The visit holds significance as it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first annual summit with his Japanese counterpart Ishiba. It is also his first standalone visit to Japan in nearly 7 years.
PM Modi last visited for the annual summit in 2018. Since then, he has visited Japan, but that has been for multilateral engagements and other ceremonial events. This will be a visit that will be fully dedicated to the bilateral agenda between India and Japan, Vikram Misri said.
Notably, this is also Prime Minister's 8th visit to Japan since he took office in 2014.
From Japan, PM Modi will travel to China to attend the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
