People in J&K got a new lease of life after abrogation of Article 370: PM Modi to Newsweek

PM Modi asked the team of journalists from Newsweek present at the Prime Minister’s official residence to visit the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to get a firsthand experience of the situation on ground.

In an interview to prominent news magazine Newsweek, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dispelled myths regarding the condition of people in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370.

Speaking on regular unrest witnessed in the valley prior to the removal of the special status, the Prime Minister said organized bandh/ protest, stone pelting, which once disrupted normal life, are now a thing of the past.

He also asked the team of journalists from Newsweek present at the Prime Minister’s official residence to visit the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to get a firsthand experience of the situation on ground.

Shedding light on other aspects of public life, PM Modi said that youth are equally excited about sports events being held here. “Sports is being seen as a career path for many youth there. A new dawn has also emerged for Kashmiri women, who now enjoy the same rights as their male counterparts when it comes to inheriting property or transferring property to their children, regardless of their marital status or residency,” observed the Prime Minister

Speaking on how Jammu and Kashmir has become more accessible to the foreign delegations, Modi observed post the revocation of Article 370, the region has become a welcoming destination for global events, hosting significant gatherings like the Formula 4 racing event, Miss World and G20 meetings.
