In a move to facilitate construction work, the Panvel exit on the Mumbai carriageway of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will be closed for the next six months starting Tuesday, Navi Mumbai traffic police announced.

This closure will happen due to the ongoing construction of a flyover and underpass at Kalamboli Circle, being carried out by the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC).

The Indian Express reported that the restriction will affect vehicles heading towards Panvel, Mumbra, JNPT, Taloja, Kalyan, and Shilphata, with alternative routes put in place to manage the traffic flow during this period.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Navi Mumbai, Tirupati Kakde, vehicles heading towards Panvel, Goa, and JNPT will be diverted 9.6 km before the Panvel exit at Kon Phata. From there, they will take a left turn towards Palaspe Circle, connecting to National Highway 48 (Delhi-Chennai Highway) to continue their journey.

For those traveling from Pune towards Taloja, Kalyan, and Shilphata, the route will also be diverted but will not be completely closed. These vehicles will exit the expressway at Kalamboli and proceed along the Sion-Panvel Highway. They will take a right turn under the flyover near Purusharth Petrol Pump to reach Roadpali and continue towards NH-48.

However, the vehicles traveling from Pune to the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), also known as Atal Setu, will not face any disruptions. They will be diverted from the service road at Kon Phata.

The ongoing construction at Kalamboli Circle aims to ease long-term traffic congestion. Upon completion, the flyover and underpass will help vehicles heading towards Panvel, JNPT, and Goa avoid multiple traffic signals, leading to smoother traffic flow, reduced travel time, and improved overall congestion management in the area.
