A 27-year-old woman from Odisha was gang-raped at knifepoint in front of her husband by three guest workers from Bihar in Tamil Nadu’s Tirupur.
The Tirupur North all-woman police arrested the accused on Tuesday night, according to a report by the Times of India.
According to police, the woman, along with her husband and three-year-old child, had arrived in Tirupur on February 17 in search of work. While standing near Pushpa Junction, they were approached by three men — Mohammad Nadim (24), Mohammad Danish (25), and Mohammed Murshith (20) — who promised them jobs and led them to a rental house in Lakshmi Nagar for the night.
After dinner, the family went to sleep, but later, the three men assaulted the husband, tied him up, and held the couple at knifepoint before raping the woman, police said. The accused also threatened to kill the couple in case they filed a complaint with the police.
Despite the threats from the accused, the couple approached the Tirupur North all-woman police station on Tuesday and filed a complaint. A case was registered and the police arrested the accused the same night. They were produced before a judicial magistrate and remanded in judicial custody before being sent to Coimbatore Central Prison.
The victim is currently undergoing treatment at Tirupur Government Medical College and Hospital. The police are conducting further investigations.
