The Telangana government on Thursday officially ended the admission quota for students from Andhra Pradesh in Telangana colleges. Beginning with the upcoming academic year, the students from AP will no longer have a quota for admission to Telangana colleges' engineering programs and other professional programs.
Nearly 85 percent of the seats in each course offered by the state's educational institutions shall be reserved for local candidates from the Osmania University (OU) area, ie, the Telangana region, according to GO MS 15, issued by the Education Department.
The remaining 15 percent of seats will come under unreserved. However, candidates declared as locals of OU area are eligible for unreserved category seats.
Additionally, the unreserved quota seats are available to applicants who have lived in the state for ten years, excluding time spent studying outside the state, or to either parent who has lived in the state for ten years, excluding time spent working outside the state.
Students whose parents work for the state or Central government, public sector corporations, local government agencies, universities, or other quasi-public institutions in the State shall be eligible for the unreserved quota, according to the department.
Candidates who are spouses of employees of the State or Central government, public sector corporations, local authorities, government-recognized universities and educational institutions, and other quasi-government institutions in the State may also run for seats under the unreserved quota.
According to the AP Reorganisation Act 2014, the common admissions between the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for a ten-year period ended this academic year, prompting the government to create new regulations.
So far, 85 per cent of the seats in the HEIs in the state are reserved for Osmania University area (Telangana) locals and the remaining 15 per cent is open for all, allowing students from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh compete for a seat in the 15 per cent quota. This common admission process norm has been followed by Andhra Pradesh as well.
