Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has once again emphasized his commitment to transforming waste into valuable resources and advancing sustainability in waste management. Speaking at the Sthanik Swarajya Sanstha Diwas program on August 31, Gadkari highlighted Nagpur's innovative practices that have turned waste into a profitable venture.
Gadkari spoke about Nagpur's innovative waste management practices during the event. Gadkari revealed that the city's civic body earns Rs 300 crore annually by treating sewage and selling it to nearby industries.
“In Nagpur, the municipal body is earning Rs 300 crore annually by treating sewage and selling it to industries in the nearby areas,” said Gadkari addressing Sthanik Swarajya Sanstha Diwas program organised Akhil Bhartiya Sthanik Swarajya Sanstha in Nagpur on August 31.
In addition, Gadkari detailed a new initiative in Nagpur where organic waste is processed in a bio-digester to produce methane. This methane is then converted into biofuels, enhancing the city's sustainability efforts. “In Nagpur, we now put organic waste into a bio-digester to produce methane, which is used to create biofuels,” said Gadkari.
Emphasizing the value of waste, Gadkari said, "Garbage should become so valuable that people demand to acquire it."
This is not the first time Gadkari has advocated for using waste in sustainable practices. Last year, he outlined plans to incorporate waste from Delhi’s landfill sites in Ghazipur, Okhla, and Bhalaswa into the construction of the Urban Extension Road (UER) 2, which will be the capital’s third ring road.
Gadkari’s initiatives underline his ministry's ongoing efforts to integrate renewable resources into infrastructure projects and promote environmental sustainability.
