Pakistan's newly-elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on March 7 thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for felicitating him on his election.
"Thank you @narendramodi for felicitations on my election as the Prime Minister of Pakistan," the newly-elected Pakistan premier posted on X.
On March 5, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had congratulated Shehbaz on becoming the Pakistan Prime Minister for the second time.
"Congratulations to @CMShehbaz on being sworn in as the Prime Minister of Pakistan," PM Modi posted on X.
In his victory speech in the National Assembly soon after he was elected as the 24th Prime Minister and for a second time since 2022, Shehbaz Sharif said his government would not allow the country to become part of some "great game" and would maintain cordial relations with neighbours based on the principles of equality.
In the February 8 elections, Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party came second. Independent candidates backed by jailed former prime minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won the most seats but failed to get a majority in Parliament.
