The deployment of police personnel on the roads has increased after the formation of the Sadak Surakhya Force

The Sadak Surakhya Force created by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann saved more than 1,000 lives, officials told Moneycontrol.

This force has delivered more than 60 lakh cash to the homes of the people injured in accidents. Around 5,000 policemen have been deployed in this team to prevent road accidents in Punjab. Under this initiative, the security of more than 5,500 km of national highways, state highways and major district roads has been strengthened and around 150 state-of-the-art vehicles have been deployed to prevent vehicular traffic violations. Members of the force wear a uniform different from the Punjab Police.

Based on the 2004 Census, the number of traffic police in the state is 2,048. After deployment of the force, 59% road accidents on highways passing through rural areas of Punjab and 4% road accidents in urban areas have been prevented, said officials.

The newly inducted vehicles under the Sadak Surakhya Force are equipped with a high-end mobile network, video recording system (MNVRS), four cameras and a vehicle at the location.  The advanced mobile surveillance system installed in these vehicles is robust to industrial-grade standards. According to guidelines, one vehicle will be parked every 30 km. Three police personnel will be presented in the vehicle. If there is a road accident, police will help the injured person.

Punjab has become the first state in the country to constitute a Sadak Surakhya Force. Now, if there is any accident on the road within a radius of 30 km, information about it can be relayed to the helpline no 112. As soon as the information reaches the personnel in the control room, they will dispatch a hi-tech vehicle to assist the affected people.
