two years after getting the licence from the DGCA, Maharashtra's Shirdi Airport commenced the night-time flight operations from Sunday. IndiGo's Hyderabad-Shirdi night flight touched down amid stunning water canon salute at the airport on Sunday. Lauding this development, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took to X (erstwhile Twitter) to share some photos.
Fadnavis began his post with 'Om Sai Ram' greetings. He hailed the night-time landing, which coincided with Gudi Padwa festival. "On the auspicious occasion of Gudi Padwa, Maharashtra AirPort Development Company (MADC) greeted and welcomed the passengers of first night-flight as IndiGo landed from Hyderabad at 2121 hrs, marking a historic milestone for Maharashtra’s aviation sector," the Chief Minister said in the post. He termed it as "a big leap" and said that it will help in "connectivity for Shri Sai Baba devotees worldwide!"

According to a Times of India report, the Director General of Civil Aviation had granted the night-time flight operation licence to the Shirdi Airport in 2023. But the night-time flight operations couldn't begin from the airport as many airlines were not interested in flying during those hours. Till now, the Shirdi Airport was operational between 10 am to 6 pm daily. But after the recarpeting of the runway etc being done, the airport will have extended operational hours.
