Heavily armed insurgents reportedly attacked Indian Army’s 19 Grenadiers unit camp at Kakopathar in Assam on Friday early morning.
According to News18, the exchange of fire reportedly continued for nearly an hour near the Army camp. Three soldiers also reportedly sustained injuries during the attack.
Local reports claim that the ambush was carried out by a joint group of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K-YA) and the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-Independent), both proscribed insurgent outfits.
Following the incident, a massive search and combing operation was launched by the security forces in coordination with local police. It is believed that the attackers have fled into the dense forested terrain bordering Myanmar.
Officials told News18 that a truck is believed to have been used by the attackers which was later found abandoned in the Tengapani area of neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh.
Eariler too security forces have come under attack in the volatile Changlang district, which shares a porous and rugged international border with Myanmar.
