Comedian Kapil Sharma and his wife Ginni Chatrath’s new cafe in Canada was at the centre of a shooting incident on July 9, just days after its opening, according to a News18 report. According to reports, Khalistani terrorist Harjit Singh Laddi has taken responsibility for the incident.

The cafe -- known as Kap's cafe -- was inuagurated just a few days back and is located in Surrey in Canada's British Columbia. It is Sharma's first foray in the restaurant industry.

As per reports, there were no injuries from the shooting incident. The assailants reportedly arrived in a car and fled immediately after.

Certain videos of the incident are widely being shared across social media platforms showing several rounds of firing directed at the property. Moneycontrol could not independently verify the authenticity of the videos.

Laddi faces multiple terror charges in India and is suspected of masterminding several recent assaults on pro-India figures and Hindu community leaders. According to an NDTV report, Laddi is said to have ordered the shooting as he was offended by an earlier statement allegedly made by Sharma.

Soon after the incident, police and forensic teams arrived at the spot and an investigation is currently underway. The actor-comedian has not yet issued a public statement in this regard so far.
