Fake doctor performs surgery with help of YouTube videos, Bihar boy dies

Indian Medical Association has called for stringent action against quacks who damage the reputation of genuine doctors.

A 15-year-old boy died in Saran district of Bihar after a quack performed surgery on him, following instructions from YouTube videos.

The family of the deceased boy Golu said he was taken to the accused Ajit Kumar Puri’s private clinic on Friday with complaints of stomachache and vomiting.

“After Golu was admitted the quack decided to perform gall bladder surgery… after watching videos on YouTube…it was after the surgery, that Golu’s condition worsened. When his condition worsened, the staff of the clinic took him to Patna where he died on the way on September 7. The family members alleged that the quack performed surgery after watching videos on YouTube”, district police said in a statement.

Local police have said they have launched an investigation into the death. The quack is yet to be traced.
