The long-awaited Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) rules are ready and will be notified within the next 10 days, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Thursday.
Speaking at a pre-event for the AI Impact Summit, Vaishnaw said the rules have been finalised after an extensive consultation process with stakeholders and are now in the final stages of publication.
"The DPDP rules are ready and will be published in a few days from now," the minister confirmed, adding that the formal release is expected by September 28.
The DPDP Act, which received Presidential assent in August 2023, aims to create a legal framework to safeguard citizens' digital personal data, regulate how companies collect and use such data, and strengthen user consent and privacy norms. The upcoming rules are expected to lay out key compliance mechanisms, enforcement processes, and penalties under the Act.
