The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted intensified rainfall for Delhi, predicting moderate to heavy showers over the next seven days, with an 'orange alert' in place for the next three days. The national capital is set to experience significant rainfall spells on Sunday and Monday.
Heavy rains battered several parts of north India on Saturday, leading to severe consequences in Delhi. The death toll from rain-related incidents rose to 11 in the past three days after three laborers were found dead under the debris of a collapsed wall in Vasant Vihar amidst the downpour. Persistent rainfall affected various parts of Delhi, including Rohini, Burari, and central Delhi. Safdarjung, Delhi’s primary weather station, recorded 8.9 mm of rainfall, while Lodhi Road logged 12.6 mm between 2:30 pm and 5:30 pm.
The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Mumbai on Sunday, with expectations of moderate to heavy rainfall. On Monday, Mumbai residents should prepare for heavy to very heavy rains, as an orange alert will be in effect. Additionally, orange alerts have been issued for Ratnagiri, Raigad, and Sindhudurg districts, while Thane and Palghar districts have been issued a yellow alert for the next five days. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) forecasts a generally cloudy sky with intermittent spells of moderate rain in Mumbai and its suburbs, with temperatures ranging between 31°C and 25°C.
The IMD also expects isolated heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan from June 29 to July 3. Very heavy rainfall is anticipated in isolated areas of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, east Rajasthan, and west Madhya Pradesh during this period.
The southwest monsoon has further advanced into the remaining parts of east Uttar Pradesh and some areas of west Uttar Pradesh. The IMD predicts favorable conditions for the monsoon to progress into more regions of west Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and the remaining areas of west Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu over the next two to three days.
