Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government offers 300 units of free power from July

Mann met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on April 12 to discuss the scheme of providing free electricity to the people of Punjab

On the completion of one month in power, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab announced 300 units of free electricity for every household from July 1, according to the State Information and Public Relations Department.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met his Delhi counterpart and party chief Arvind Kejriwal on April 12 to discuss the scheme of providing free electricity to the people of Punjab and indicated in a press conference that the state would make a big announcement soon, reported ANI.

"On the 16th, we will give a great good news to the people of Punjab," Punjab CM had said. Providing free electricity to every household for up to 300 units was one of the major promises made by the AAP in the run-up to the Punjab Assembly elections last month.

In Delhi, the AAP government provides 200 units of free power to the people.

Mann rolled out a doorstep ration delivery scheme in the state last month which was also AAP's one of the key campaign agenda items for the polls.

The Punjab CM had said the poor will no longer need to stand in queues as good quality ration will be delivered at their doorstep. However, the scheme will be optional for the eligible beneficiaries, Mann had said in a video message.
