Karnataka Minister for Large and Medium Industries MB Patil on November 18 said that a semiconductor park will come up on 200 acres of land in KWIN City.

KWIN City is a 5,800-acre smart city project near Bengaluru, located between Dabaspet and Doddaballapur.

“The state government will develop a semiconductor park on 200 acres of land. All the facilities required for such companies will be provided here. It will work as an innovation centre for all kinds of semiconductor sectors at the national and state levels,” Patil said.

He was speaking at the inaugural programme of the three-day Bengaluru Tech Summit that began at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) on November 18.

Patil said government has prioritised attracting capital investment from leading technology companies and major anchor investors. “The government’s goal is that such investment should flow into various sectors of the industry. Drones, semiconductor devices and solar power are all considered among such sectors,” he said.

“For industries to grow and investors to come to us, the research and development environment must be strong. Our R&D centres are involved in cutting-edge areas such as artificial intelligence, deep tech, quantum computing, space-tech, etc.,” he said.

He said that sufficient space will be allocated for R&D centres within the 5,000 acres earmarked for the proposed KWIN City, and a suitable ecosystem will be developed for them.

“Many technology companies in the state are active in areas such as AI, ML, quantum, robotics, modern manufacturing and sustainable innovation. The government has provided Rs 600 crore to support such companies. Our resolve is to make the state a leader in both deep science and cutting-edge technology. In addition, it has recently been decided to start a Centre of Excellence in AI and quantum computing in Dharwad,” Patil said.

He added that industries have begun collaborating with educational institutions in areas like biotechnology and cybersecurity.

Patil said the state has progressive policies for the ESDM sector, transportation systems, biotechnology and startup development, and that Karnataka is working with countries such as Japan, the United States, Germany and Singapore.
