In a shocking incident on Thursday, Amit Kumar Sarkar, a West Bengal government employee, stabbed four of his colleagues after allegedly being denied leave.

Sarkar, an employee in the technical education department, then walked around with the bloodstained knife in the Newtown area of Kolkata, reported NDTV.

A resident of Ghola in Sodepur, North 24 Parganas district, Sarkar was seen walking with the knife in broad daylight. He also carried a bag on his back and another in his hand. Some passersby filmed the incident on their phones as Sarkar warned them not to approach him.

Sarkar allegedly got into a disagreement with his colleagues about taking time off. Following the argument, he used the knife to attack them.

The injured colleagues, identified as Jaydeb Chakraborty, Santanu Saha, Sartha Late, and Sheikh Satabul, were rushed to a nearby hospital, with two of them reported to be in critical condition.

Police are still investigating the motive behind the attack, but they believe that Sarkar became enraged after his leave request was denied. Sarkar was arrested later.

The police suspect that Sarkar may have mental health issues as well.
