Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday asked the DMK government in Tamil Nadu led by Chief Minister MK Stalin to commence engineering and medical education in the Tamil language in the state.
Addressing the 56th Raising Day of the CISF at RTC Thakkolam in Tamil Nadu's Ranipet, Shah said that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi that CISF aspirants could now write their exam papers in their respective languages.
"Earlier, there was no place for your mother tongue in CAPF exams. You could not write CAPF exam in Bengali, Kannada or in Tamil languages but PM Modi decided that now candidates can appear for the CAPF exams in their mother tongue as well," Shah said in his address.
"I appeal to the Tamil Nadu chief minister to start the engineering and medical education in Tamil in the state for the benefit of students," Amit Shah further said.
The Home Minister's remarks came after the CM Stalin said that the National Education Policy 2020 was like "an LKG student lecturing a PhD holder", claiming that the state has already achieved several of the new policy's goals.
Hitting back at Stalin, Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai said that the Chief Minister should "stop swinging his paper word" against the "delusional" Hindi imposition in the state. "Your fake Hindi imposition drama has already been exposed. It's unfortunate that you haven't realized it yet," he said on X.
The two leaders have been at a war of words over the alleged Hindi imposition through the three-language formula in the NEP. Earlier, Stalin had mocked the BJP's signature campaign in the state and called it a circus.
"Now the BJP's circus-like signature campaign for the three-language formula has become a laughing stock in Tamil Nadu. I challenge them to make this their core agenda in the 2026 Assembly elections and let it be a referendum on Hindi imposition. History is clear. Those who tried to impose Hindi on Tamil Nadu have either been defeated or later changed their stance and aligned with the DMK. Tamil Nadu will not tolerate Hindi colonialism replacing British colonialism," he had said.
