The opposition staged a walkout in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, protesting Home Minister Amit Shah’s speech during the debate.

As the MPs began to leave, Union Minister Piyush Goyal was seen laughing and gesturing with his hands, appearing to signal them to go ahead and exit.

The Parliament Winter Session on Wednesday saw a fiery face-off between him, the Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Home Minister Amit Shah during the debate on electoral reforms and "SIR" (Special Intensive Revision) exercise across the country.

The war of words escalated after Shah responded to Rahul Gandhi's "Vote Chori" accusations and criticised his recent press conference, which the Congress labelled as a "Hydrogen Bomb."

"The leader of the opposition, Rahul Gandhi, at a press conference on 5 November 2025, made claims regarding a ‘nuclear bomb.’ Within that context, he mentioned that in Haryana, 501 households were affected. The Election Commission clarified that House Number 265 is not a small house; it is on a one-acre plot with multiple families living there. However, individual house numbers were not assigned to each family, so multiple generations of a single family could be living under House Number 501," Shah said.

After walking out of the parliament, Rahul Gandhi said Home Minister Amit Shah's response in parliament was 'defensive'. "You should have seen the response of Home Minister, it was totally a defensive response, and what points we raised, he did not answer... I had said two or three things, I had asked for a transparent voter list, he did not say a word, I had asked for sharing the EVM architecture, he did not say a word... The CEC has been given full immunity," he said.
