The all-India gathering of Director Generals and Inspector Generals of Police will take place in Chhattisgarh from November 28 to 30, with major themes such as internal security, cyber challenges, drug trafficking, border issues, counter-terror measures, and approaches to tackle Left Wing Extremism set to dominate the discussions, reported ANI. Officials noted that this is the first time the three-day national-level security meet is being hosted in Raipur.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to open the 60th edition of the conference at the Marine Drive complex in New Raipur, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address the concluding session. According to ANI sources, the PM’s schedule could be adjusted “as per the situation.”
The event will draw senior police leadership from across India, with participants expected to evaluate strategies and share field experiences.
According to officials familiar with the agenda, “the conference will deliberate on key issues related to internal security, including strategies to combat Left Wing Extremism (Naxalism), counter-terrorism efforts, drug control, cyber security, and border management.”
They also underlined that this year’s deliberations would carry “special emphasis on Naxal-affected regions,” especially in light of recent joint achievements by state police and central forces in the Bastar belt. Plans to build on this cooperation are also expected to be reviewed.
The Prime Minister’s presence will mark his second visit to Chhattisgarh in less than a month; he had earlier participated in the State Foundation Day events on November 1.
Modi also attended last year’s 59th DGsP-IGsP conference, held from November 30 to December 1, 2024, at the State Convention Centre in Bhubaneswar, where discussions revolved around Counter Terrorism, Coastal Security, Left Wing Extremism, New Criminal Laws, and Narcotics. The conference also featured the presentation of the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service.
Senior officials recall that these conferences serve as platforms for police leaders to freely exchange views on security-related challenges, share professional practices, examine issues affecting police welfare, and consider improvements in crime control and law-and-order mechanisms.
They note that PM Modi has “consistently shown a keen interest” in the event, promoting a setting that encourages open dialogue and fresh ideas. Since 2014, the conference has been held in diverse locations including Guwahati, the Rann of Kachchh, Hyderabad, Tekanpur, the Statue of Unity, Pune, Lucknow, New Delhi, and Jaipur.
