Processed and spicy food, excessive caffeine, and sugar cravings lead to hormonal imbalances and mood swings during menopause

According to the National Institute of Aging, while some women effortlessly transition through menopause, feeling relieved from concerns like painful periods or pregnancy, others may experience symptoms such as hot flashes, sleep troubles, pain during sex, mood swings, irritability, or even depression. These involve hormonal shifts that influence various aspects of your health.

As estrogen levels decline, the body undergoes changes that extend beyond the discontinuance of menstruation. Understanding and embracing this period is not just about dealing with these  symptoms; it is also an act of self-love and self-care.

Here are 5 culprits that can intensify menopausal symptoms:

Stress may cause a storm: When you are stressed, your body's cortisol levels surge. This creates a disturbance that can worsen menopausal symptoms. Moreover, regular stress may make hot flashes worse, disturb sleep, and lead to mood swings. Breathing exercises and daily meditation are very helpful during this time.

Poor sleep cycle is a nightmare: Tossing, turning, and struggling to sleep are common during menopause. Poor sleep hygiene, along with hormonal changes, can result in symptoms such as fatigue, irritability, and cognitive fog. Make a consistent sleep routine and stick to it.

Be careful about the food you eat: Certain dietary choices can either reduce or increase menopausal symptoms. Processed and spicy food, excessive caffeine, and sugar cravings lead to hormonal imbalances and mood swings. Make healthy  diet choices that include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins.

Break free from the couch, now: A sedentary lifestyle can worsen menopausal symptoms. Regular exercise not only promotes physical well-being but also helps manage weight, mood, and your health during this challenging phase.

Loneliness and a lack of emotional support are detrimental: Along with a physical transition, menopause also comes with an emotional tsunami. A lack of emotional support and understanding can intensify stress and worsen the symptoms. Therefore it is important to keep connected with friends and family and build a supportive network.
