Odisha Assembly Election Result 2024 Live: BJP leading in 78 Assembly seats, BJD in 53 and INC in 14 seats

According to the Election Commission of India, after all 19 rounds of counting, BJP's Suresh Pujari is leading from Brajarajnagar Assembly Constituency of Odisha.

As of the latest update, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 76 seats, followed by the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in 53 seats, the Indian National Congress (INC) in 16 seats, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in 1 seat, and an Independent candidate in 1 seat.

While talking to ANI, BJP leader Lalitendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra said, "I want to thank the people of Odisha. These assembly election result trends are not surprising, we knew beforehand that the people of Odisha were looking for a change... People of Odisha will celebrate today..."

The latest update from the 2024 Odisha elections indicates that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 19 Lok Sabha seats, while the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Indian National Congress (INC) are trailing behind with 1 seat each.

As of the latest update, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 72 Assembly seats, followed by the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) with 57 seats, the Indian National Congress (INC) with 15 seats, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) with 1 seat, and Independent candidates with 2 seats.

Counting of votes begins for 147 assembly seats and 21 Lok Sabha seats in Odisha.

In the 2019 legislative assembly elections, the BJD, under the leadership of Naveen Patnaik, secured a resounding triumph by clinching 112 seats out of 147 in the state. This victory marked Patnaik's fifth consecutive term as chief minister since 2000. The BJP secured 23 seats, while the Congress managed to win nine seats in the same elections.

"There is no alternative to Prime Minister Modi, he is the need of the country. BJP will form the state government in Odisha. As per my assessment in Lok Sabha, we won't get less than 17 seats. People are upset in Odisha due to the bad governance under CM Naveen Patnaik. People were angry as Odisha had everything people are going to Gujarat for labour," Biplab Kumar Deb told ANI.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is contesting as a candidate in the Sambalpur Lok Sabha constituency, while Sambit Patra is contesting from Puri. BJD has put forward former Mumbai police commissioner Arup Patnaik as a candidate against BJP's Sambit Patra for the Puri Lok Sabha constituency. Congress has nominated state president Sarat Pattanayak for the Nuapada assembly seat and also awarded a ticket to former Indian hockey team captain Prabodh Tirkey for the Talrasa assembly seat.

Speaking to ANI, Congress leader Dr Biswamohan Mohanty said, "This is a fake exit poll. It is manipulated, managed and governmental. It is based on the feedback of DM and not EVM. The people are angry because of unemployment, inflation and other issues related to farmers, youth and backward classes... The people have voted against the government..."

As per the Election Commission of India's instructions, the counting of Postal Ballots is to be taken up first. After half an hour, RO should start counting of votes in EVM. The counting of votes in EVM may continue till penultimate round. The last round of counting in EVM will be done when counting of all postal ballots is complete.

On May 20, 2024, the second phase of the Odisha Assembly elections was held for 35 constituencies. In the previous assembly elections held in April 2019, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) won a significant majority, securing 112 out of 147 seats, leading to Naveen Patnaik becoming the chief minister. In the 2019 elections, Naveen Patnaik's BJD won 12 seats, while the BJP got eight, and the Indian National Congress (INC) only managed to secure one seat.

Last year, voting for the Odisha assembly was held from April 11 to April 29, covering 147 constituencies across four phases, coinciding with the Lok Sabha elections. Naveen Patnaik and his Biju Janata Dal (BJD) secured victory for the fifth consecutive time in 2019 amidst tough competition with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
