VVS Laxman likely to be India's head coach for Australia T20I series after 2023 ODI World Cup

VVS Laxman has taken charge of India's men team in the past, when the current support staff led by Rahul Dravid has been given a breather.

October 27, 2023 / 18:43 IST
VVS Laxman is currently serving as the Chairman of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Even as India's campaign at the ongoing 2023 ODI World Cup enters its second half with the match against England on Sunday, the preparations for the bilaterals after the ODI World Cup seems to have begun starting with reports emerging that former India cricketer and current NCA Chairman VVS Laxman is likely to coach the Men in Blue in the T20I series against Australia that succeeds the quadrennial event.

"VVS Laxman has always been in charge when Rahul has taken a break and same thing is likely to continue for the series just after the World Cup," a BCCI source told PTI.

It will be interesting to see if current head coach Rahul Dravid wishes to continue as head coach of the national team, post the ODI World Cup, which involves extensive travelling and constant pressure. There is a possibility that Dravid, who has previously coached IPL teams like Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, might return to the T20 league fold which has 10 teams.

It is highly likely though that Dravid, as well as the entire squad barring Suryakumar Yadav, will be given much-needed rest after a gruelling ODI World Cup campaign.

India's first match after the 2023 ODI World Cup will be a T20I against Australia at Visakhapatnam on November 23, four days after the final of the marquee event at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The Rohit Sharma-led side are currently unbeaten in the 2023 ODI World Cup, having won all five matches that they have played so far.
