That is all from this game. So, the third ODI turns out to be a must win for West Indies who are 1-0 down at the moment in the series. Do join us for the final ODI on the 25th of this month at 9.45 am GMT. Do join us earlier for the build up. Cheers!
So, the inevitable has happened. THE MATCH HAS BEEN CALLED OFF. The rain was persistent enough for the undesirable result to take place. The rain was predicted right from the start but luckily we got a clear sky and a nice 50-over battle to watch. Keacy Carty grabbed the headlines but it was Forde's fifty (the joint-fastest ODI half-century in the history of the game) that took the total over 350. The stage was set for Ireland to show their batting prowess as they did in the first ODI but the weather gods had other plans.
UPDATE - 16.18 GMT - The umpires are discussing with the ground staff under umbrellas, suggesting the rain is still impacting play, and a decision on the game's status is likely imminent; given the heavy rain and poor drainage, the match might be abandoned with Dublin's weather forecast showing more chances of rain.
UPDATE- 16.03 GMT - The situation remains unchanged, with the grounds staff having attempted some activity around the pitch, but it seems they've given up for now. With no new updates, the chances of the game proceeding look increasingly bleak. Fingers are still crossed that the rain will subside and play will resume, but it doesn't look promising at the moment.
UPDATE - 15.20 GMT - The rain in Dublin continues to cause a delay in the Ireland vs West Indies 2nd ODI match. The cut-off time for a 20-over contest is 17.00 GMT.
UPDATE - 15.11 GMT - Not a single human being present on the ground. The rain continues to pour down. Just a reminder, a minimum of 20 overs is required to constitute a completed ODI. For that, we need the rain to stop as quickly as possible.
UPDATE - 14.42 GMT - The covers are firmly placed as the rain continues to pour at Castle Avenue, Dublin. The waiting game continues...Stay tuned.
Game stopped due to : Rain Stoppage
UPDATE - 14.05 GMT - We should be getting going by now but the rain has arrived and the pitch is under cover. More sheets arrive as we speak and as a result, the start of the chase has been delayed. Stay tuned.
...THE RUN CHASE...
The Irish bowlers struggled to contain the Windies' batting unit, with too many loose deliveries being hit for boundaries. However, some positives can be taken from Barry McCarthy, who picked up 2 wickets, and Liam, who claimed 3 wickets. The target is daunting, but Ireland's batting unit showed their prowess in the first ODI, and if they can replicate that performance, it could be a thrilling chase. The stage is set for an exciting second innings, and fans are eagerly waiting to see how Ireland will respond to the massive total set by the West Indies.
Despite losing both openers within the Powerplay, the Windies' innings stabilized with a crucial partnership between Keacy Carty and Shai Hope, who added 81 runs together. Carty went on to score a century, showcasing his batting prowess, while Hope fell just one run short of a half-century. The game took a dramatic turn when Matthew Forde came in and smashed the joint-fastest ODI half-century in the history of the game, reaching the milestone in just 16 deliveries and equaling AB de Villiers' record.

Shai Hope the skipper of West Indies feels they could have got wickets had the bowl first with similar conditions to the first game. Mentions they need to lear from their last game and play the brand of cricket they want to. Reckons they need to asses the conditions and get as many runs as possible. Informs Jayden Seales comes in for Shamar Joseph.
Ireland captain Paul Stirling has decided to bowl first, aiming to capitalize on the conditions offered by the new pitch. He believes there's plenty on offer for the bowlers, just like in the first game, and hopes to utilize it well. Stirling emphasizes the importance of sticking to the same processes that led to their success in the first match, while also acknowledging that the West Indies won't be taken lightly. He stresses the need for his team to be even better than they were in the first game to keep their series lead intact.
West Indies (Playing XI) - Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Keacy Carty, Shai Hope (C/WK), Amir Jangoo, Roston Chase, Justin Greaves, Matthew Forde, Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales (In for Shamar Joseph).
Ireland (Unchanged Playing XI) - Paul Stirling (C), Andy Balbirnie, Cade Carmichael, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker (WK), George Dockrell, Thomas Mayes, Andy McBrine, Barry McCarthy, Josh Little, Liam McCarthy.
TOSS - Ireland have won the toss and will BOWL.
On the other hand, the West Indies will be reflecting on what went wrong in the first game and looking to make necessary adjustments to level the series. While their batting lineup, featuring Shai Hope, Brandon King, and Justin Greaves, failed to show promise, they will need to fire on all cylinders to make a game out of this one. With the ball, the Windies' bowlers, led by Alzarri Joseph and Matthew Forde, will need to tighten up their lines and lengths to restrict Ireland's scoring opportunities. If the Windies can find a way to improve their performances with both bat and ball, they might just be able to turn the series around. Stay tuned for toss and team updates...
Ireland's victory in the first ODI was a testament to their exceptional batting and bowling performances. Andy Balbirnie's century was a highlight of the match, showcasing his skill and composure. Other key contributors, such as Paul Stirling, Lorcan Tucker and Harry Tector, also played crucial roles in Ireland's success. With the ball, Barry McCarthy was instrumental in picking up crucial wickets, setting the tone for Ireland's dominance. If Ireland can replicate their winning formula, they might just find themselves with an unassailable lead in the series.
Welcome to the Clontarf Cricket Club, Dublin, where cricket enthusiasts have gathered to witness the thrilling 2nd ODI between Ireland and West Indies. The atmosphere is electric, with fans eagerly anticipating another exciting match between these two talented teams. After a thrilling opening match, the series is currently poised at 1-0 in favor of Ireland, and the Windies will be looking to bounce back strongly in this encounter.
... MATCH DAY ...
The picturesque setting of Dublin is ready to witness a fiery showdown as Ireland take on West Indies in the second ODI of this three-match series. After a solid all-round performance in the first game, the hosts lead 1-0 and are now just one win away from sealing yet another series victory over the Caribbean giants - and they’ll be smelling blood. The Windies, on the other hand, find themselves once again in familiar territory - fighting to bounce back after a stuttering start, desperate to avoid another overseas series slip. Ireland, under Paul Stirling’s experienced leadership, have built a reputation for punching above their weight and they’ve done it again. Their top order continues to deliver with Andy Balbirnie smashing a fantastic ton in the last game, with Harry Tector’s consistency and Lorcan Tucker’s fluency through the middle proving to be major assets. The bowlers, too, have stepped up. Barry McCarthy set the tone with his early strikes, while Josh Little and Thomas Mayes’ pace and bounce kept the West Indian batters in check. George Dockrell did the rest spinning a web around the visitors. The energy in the field and the discipline in execution was evident /- this is a team that believes. The West Indies, meanwhile, are running out of excuses. Despite boasting explosive talents like Evin Lewis and Brandon King, they’ve lacked the application needed to finish games. Skipper Shai Hope has been a steady figure, but he’ll want more from his senior players, especially with the bat. Alzarri Joseph and Matthew Forde's fiery spells and the promise shown by the bowling attack can only do so much if the top order doesn’t fire. Roston Chase remains a key figure having the ability to contribute with both bat and ball. They’ll be keen to draw inspiration from past comebacks, but this time, they need a collective lift. There’s added spice in the narrative too - Ireland famously beat West Indies in the 2022 series in Jamaica and knocked them out of the T20 World Cup later that year. Those wounds are still fresh, and this could be the moment the Windies look to finally respond. But Ireland won’t back down, especially at home, where they’ve grown into a confident and dangerous side. With the series on the line and plenty of pride at stake, expect a cracking contest in Dublin. Will Ireland close it out early or will the West Indies fight back and keep the series alive? One thing’s certain - it’s going to be a battle worth watching.
