Right! Two intriguing matches in Colombo, where 240 ended up being a par score. Both sides will rue the missed chances in either of those games, so the series status reflects fairly. We now move to Pallekele for the third and final ODI, with the pitch and combinations keeping the think tank on their toes. The match is scheduled to be played on Tuesday, 8th July, 2025, with the first ball at 9 am GMT, but our buildup will begin well in advance. So do tune in early. In the meantime, you can check out how the Ashes rivals are performing in their respective Tests across two continents. Enjoy. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
The victorious skipper of Bangladesh, MEHIDY HASAN MIRAZ, confidently says that he believed that 248 was enough as everyone saw in the last match that 240 was difficult to chase. On what was going through his mind when Madushka and Kusal Mendis were batting, or even when Janith Liyanage was playing, Mehidy says he just told Tanvir (during the second wicket stand) that his side needs those two wickets as without wickets Bangladesh cannot win. Stresses that he just thinks positively and searches for wickets and moves ahead. On his young side doing well, Miraz admits that it has been tough but still his unit is trying. Is happy that his players came back strongly and hopes to have a great match in the final ODI.
The captain of Sri Lanka, CHARITH ASALANKA, on being asked whether the toss mattered, does not feel that it did. Feels that in the first half, his bowlers did a great job, restricting Bangladesh under 250 after they got a great start. Bluntly says that it was the batting which let them down and all the batters barring Janith Liyanage should take responsibility. On being asked whether the wicket of Kusal Mendis was the key, Asalanka smiles and admits that both, Mendis' and Madushka 's wickets were key but after that, himself and the middle order could not capitalize. Regarding a tough wicket to bat upon, Charith denies it, saying that it was a bit different in the second innings but once his batters got a start like that, they should not be saying anything about the pitch. On the must-win third ODI, CA says that it is 1-1 now and a must-win game, so will have a chat with the group and come hard again.
BANGLADESH'S TANVIR ISLAM HAS BEEN ADJUDGED THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH, for his brilliant bowling figures of 5/39. Through a translator, Tanvir conveys that he felt well on claiming his maiden 5-fer. Adds that he bowled in the right areas. Details that the wicket was much better as compared to the one in the last game. Feels that hence, bowling was challenging, but he stuck to bowling tight lines. On his belief whether 248 was defendable, Tanvir says that his captain gave him confidence and asked him to bowl with an open heart. Further says that he was asked to try to contain and that's what pumped him up.
... THE PRESENTATION ...
Earlier, in the first innings, Bangladesh huffed and puffed to 248. It was a determined batting approach, much improved from the first game, where the batters tried to have some kind of a partnership. Half centuries from Parvez Hossain Emon and Tawhrid Hridoy kept the visitors on good stead but they lost their way towards the end. From 204/5, they collapsed to 218/9 and had it not been for a crucial 10-wicket stand of 30 between Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mustafizur Rahman, the match result would have been different. Asitha Fernando bowled his heart out, picking up 4 wickets while Hasaranga continued his good form, picking up 3 wickets. Please stay tuned for the presentation ...
Full marks to Bangladesh. They were hammered with the new balls but they did not lose belief or hope. They trusted themselves and found a way to get that second wicket. And once they got that, started running through the batting lineup. Then again, towards the end, they managed to keep their calm even when Liyanage was going well. Some pressure was even being seen on the visitors, dropping as many as 3 catches but luckily for them, they did not come back to haunt the visitors. Tanvir Islam and Shamim Hossain were the chief destructors, choking the Lankans with combined figures of 19-3-61-6. Tanvir went on to pick up his maiden 5-fer as well while Mehidy chipped in with some economical bowling as well. Pace was not Bangladesh's friend in this game but when it mattered, Mustafizur bowled really well at the death.
There was a reason why both captains wanted to bat first at the toss. In the absence of dew, the ball was not quite coming onto the bat in the second innings, post the 10th over. The Lankans got off to a flier racing to 75/1 in the 10th over. However. once Nishan Madushka was dismissed, the wickets started to fall regularly and the match started to go out of the Lankans' grasp. However, Janith Liyanage held one end and kept fighting, as late as the 48th over, registering a 58-run stand for the 9th wicket with Chameera, but unfortunately for the home side, it was too much to do for one player.
Finally, the losing streak ends for Bangladesh. They have been on a 7-match losing streak in ODIs, with their previous win coming way back in November 2024, against Afghanistan in Sharjah. It is also just their 5th win in ODIs in Sri Lanka.
48.5OUT! BOWLED! Tanzim roars back on the next ball! Full and straight, Dushmantha Chameera swings hard to the leg side but misses. The ball cannons into the off stump and sends it cartwheeling! BANGLADESH WIN BY 16 RUNS AND LEVEL THE 3-MATCH ODI SERIES 1-1!
48.4DROPPED! My, my, my! Simply unbelievable. Tanzim had the opportunity to finish this match. Back of the hand slower delivery, outside off, Fernando looks to heave it over the leg side but is done in by the slower ball. Gets a top edge which goes miles in the air, just beside the pitch. The bowler himself runs to his right, settles himself under the catch but spills it! A single taken. 17 more needed from 8 balls.
48.3Another slower ball, short in length, Asitha looks to slash it through the off side but misses. Tanzim thinks he heard a noise and skipper Mehidy goes for the review. UltraEdge is flat as a pancake when the ball is near the bat. No more reviews left for Bangladesh now.
48.2Slower ball, on a length, Asitha Fernando swings hard but misses.
48.1Full, outside off, Dushmantha Chameera backs away and hammers it towards long off. Trusts his partner and takes the single. 19 needed from 11 balls.
47.6A full toss, Asitha Fernando heaves it through mid-wicket for a couple. The over started with a six but got a big wicket. 8-0-56-1 for Mustafizur Rahman now.
47.5Low full toss, on middle, Fernando looks to work it to the leg side and sets off for the single but decides against it.
47.4Slower ball, on a length, moving away, Asitha pushes but misses.
47.3Full, around off, defended.
Asitha Fernando is the last batter in, replacing Janith Liyanage.
47.2OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! The Fizz strikes eventually and dare we say, it is the biggest wicket of the match! Full, on middle, Liyanage looks to work it to the leg side but is early into the shot. Gets a leading edge which goes straight up in the air. Mustafizur stutters a bit but steadies himself and gets across, nearly in front of the non striker and takes the catch. Bangladesh are cock-a-hoop while Liyanage is distraught. Departs for 78 (85) and the whole of Colombo stands up as one to applaud him off the ground. The fighting 58-run stand has been broken and Sri Lanka are 228/9, needing another 21 from 16 balls!
47.1SIX! Ho ho ho! Is that a stamp of authority or what? Full and straight, on middle and off, Janith Liyanage comes forward and drives it straight back over the bowler's head. Initially, it seems like a mishit but as the ball gathers more air, the distance is covered as well as it lands beyond the sightscreen!
46.6A full toss, outside off, Dushmantha pushes it towards cover. No one is running. Three dots to end the over but the damage was already done on the first 2 balls.
46.5A full toss outside off, swinging in, Chameera looks to drive but misses.
46.4Full and outside off, Dushmantha Chameera looks to play a drive without moving his feet and misses.
46.3Around off, Janith pushes it towards cover for a single.
46.2FOUR MORE! 50-RUN STAND IN 47 BALLS! A length ball, outside off, Liyanage jumps down the track and hammers it straight back. Tanzim tries to kick the ball away with his right leg but misses. The ball races to the fence and long on dives to his left. But he gets to the ball and ends up parrying it into the ropes! Liyanage moves to 71 (82) with his 7th four! 28 more needed from 22 balls.
46.1FOUR! Slashed away! A short ball, outside off, Janith Liyanage uses the width on offer and crashes it over backward point for a boundary!
45.6Down the leg side, Chameera looks to flick but misses and is hit on the pads. Mustafizur appeals but the umpire moves away. Chameera wants the single but is sent back. What an over - just a wide from it!
45.5Fuller, ouide off, 110 kph, moving away, Dushmantha Chameera looks to drive but misses again.
45.4Slower ball, around middle, DC keeps it down the wicket.
45.3Full, outside off, Dushmantha drives it through cover but the fielder dives to his right to stop it.
45.2So close to the leg stump! Chameera gets across to tuck the ball and Mustafizur bowls it outside leg. Chameera misses his tickle and the ball just about grazes leg stump. Liyanage at the other end asks the umpire about the wide but the reply is that the batter moved across.
45.1Landed outside off, from the back of the hand, fuller in length, Chameera looks to drive but misses.
45.1WIDE. Pressure telling on Bangladesh now. A short ball, down the leg side, Dushmantha Chameera looks to tuck but misses.
44.6A slower one, short and around off, Dushmantha Chameera manages to drag it with a pull shot to deep fine leg for one more. Sri Lanka need 37 runs off the last five overs.
44.5Short of a length and outside off, Janith Liyanage presses back and pulls it down deep square leg for a run.
44.4Back of a length and outside off, Dushmantha Chameera hops and runs it down towards deep third for one more.
44.3A yorker, around off, Janith Liyanage drills it to long on for one.
Oh dear. Shamim Hossain has gone down near the cover boundary. Seems to have tweaked something while pulling off that dive. The physio and a few others from Bangladesh's backroom stiff is tending to him. The umpires ask the staff to get on with it and SHAMIM IS BEING STRETCHERED OFF THE FIELD. Have to feel for him. Excellent bowling display, got his team into a dominant position and now, will have to sit on the sidelines and watch this thriller unravel.
44.2FOUR! A good effort goes in vain! Full and outside off, Janith Liyanage comes forward and drives it hard through covers. The sweeper cover fielder runs across to his right and puts in a dive to cut it off but makes a meal of it. Janith gets another boundary and now, Sri Lanka need 41 runs off 34 balls as 10 has come off the first two balls.
44.1SIX! HOICKED! What a player he is! A fuller delivery, slower and around off, Janith Liyanage reads the slowness of the ball, uses his feet and gets to the pitch of the ball before smacking it down the ground over the wide long on fence for a biggie.
43.6Another slower delivery, fuller and outside off, Dushmantha Chameera looks to play out this into the off side but gets beaten by the change of pace on it. Sri Lanka need 51 off the last six overs. This is getting interesting.
43.5Short pitched, around leg, Janith Liyanage swivels on his toes and pulls it down to deep backward square leg for one.
43.4Outside off, pushed down towards cover for one by Chameera.
43.3A slower one, on a length and outside off, Dushmantha Chameera looks to push it into the off side but plays his shot a bit late as the ball comes late than he would have expected to be. Gets beaten on the outside edge.
43.2Back of a length and outside off, Dushmantha Chameera stands tall and swings hard at it. Miscues his pull shot but gets enough to clear mid-wicket. Two runs taken.
43.1Just short! But Janith Liyanage gets his fifty! What a fighting knock this has been! A slower delivery, full and outside off, Janith clears out his front leg away and looks to heave it across but gets deceived by the lack of pace on it. Gets a top edge that goes towards wide long off, where the fielder runs across to his left but the ball lands down ahead of him. He tries to bring his body to stop it but the ball goes through him and they take three runs, until the sweeper cover fielder cuts it off.
Mustafizur Rahman returns. 5-0-40-0 so far. After 43 overs, Sri Lanka are 191/8. Bangladesh were 219/9 at this stage.
42.6Another good yorker, outside off, Janith squeezes it to deep third for one. Sri Lanka need 58 runs off 42 balls now. The crowd is getting behind the batters and they are cheering for every run.
42.5A slower delivery now, on a length and around off, Dushmantha Chameera is early in his shot as he looks to slog it. Gets it off the inner half of the bat and the ball goes in the air towards deep mid-wicket but falls down ahead of the incoming fielder. A single taken.
42.4A yorker now, well-directed, and the ball is reversing, around off, Janith Liyanage manages to bring his bat down in time and jams it out towards mid on. A single taken.
42.3On the fuller side and a bit outside off, Dushmantha Chameera comes forward and drills it to long on for one more.
42.2Outside off, driven through mid off for a single.
42.1DROPPED! Have you dropped the match, mate? A short ball, outside off, Janith Liyanage jumps down the track and slaps it towards point. Substitute Rishad Hossain leaps up but the ball bursts through his palms. Two runs taken.
41.6FOUR! Bonus from Chameera! Overpitched, on middle, Dushmantha Chameera flicks it beautifully through mid-wicket and the ball races away! Boy, that would have made many a top batter proud.
41.5A short ball now, pulled through mid-wicket for a single. 69 more needed from 49 balls.
41.4FOUR! SLAP! A boundary after 32 balls! Overpitched, wide outside off, Janith Liyanage leans and crashes the cover drive. Sweeper moves to his right but cannot sweep it off! Liyanage moves to 41 with his 4th boundary.
41.3And again! Perfect yorker, tailing in, around off, Janith gets his front boot out of the way and digs it out.
41.2Excellent delivery. Definite reverse swing on offer, tailing in from outside off, on the yorker length, Liyanage gets his bat down in time to defend.
41.1Full, outside off, Janith Liyanage thumps it but straight to mid off.
After 41 overs, Sri Lanka are 175/8. At the same stage, Bangladesh were 213/8. But they did not utilize 25 balls towards the end. Tanzim Hasan Sakib returns. 2-0-14-1 so far.
40.6Full and around off, Dushmantha Chameera comes forward and defends it.
40.5A yorker, around off, Dushmantha Chameera looks to jam it out but gets an under edge and the ball goes back to the keeper, who pouches it and appeals for caught behind. It is referred upstairs, and the third umpire checks the replays and calls it a bump ball as the ball has touched the ground on its way to the keeper. NOT-OUT comes on the screen and Chameera survives.
40.4Nagging length and around off, Dushmantha Chameera hangs back and defends it to cover.
40.4WIDE! Sprays it down the leg side, Chameera leaves it. Called a wide.
40.3Hard length, over off, Dushmantha Chameera hops up, and drops it down into the pitch.
40.2Fuller and around leg, Dushmantha Chameera looks to flick it but misses and the ball clips his front pad and goes back behind the wickets, where the keeper dives to his left and collects it.
40.1A loud appeal for LBW, which is turned down by the umpire! Back of a length and around middle and leg, coming in with the angle, Dushmantha Chameera hops up and looks to flick it but misses and gets hit on the top of his front pad. Could be the height the issue.

Dushmantha Chameera walks out to bat.
38.3OUT! CAUGHT! A soft dismissal for Maheesh Theekshana and Tanvir Islam has a fifer now. He has bowled supremely well throughout the inning and has fought well for Bangladesh. Tossed it up and very full, similar line, around leg, Maheesh Theekshana comes forward and just chips it aerially to mid-wicket. He plays it with soft hands but fails to keep it down. The substitute fielder, Rishad Hossain moves to his right there and takes this sharp low catch in front of him. Bangladesh are 170/8.
38.2An appeal for LBW but the umpire shakes his head! Full and on leg, Maheesh Theekshana looks to flick it but misses and gets hit on the front pad. The keeper says that it has pitched outside leg.

36.3Nagging length and around off, Maheesh Theekshana blocks it.
36.2A bit fuller and down the leg side, Janith Liyanage looks to tickle it fine, but it seems to have hit the pad, and the keeper dives to his left but fails to hold onto it as the ball pops out off his gloves. Oh, the umpire has given it off the bat, and they take a single as the ball rolls away towards short fine. Could have been out if the keeper picked that catch.
36.1FOUR! PICKED UP! A slower delivery, on a length and on the pads, Janith Liyanage hops up, and picks it up with a flick shot over deep backward square leg for a boundary.

Maheesh Theekshana is the new batter in.
35.2OUT! CAUGHT! Finally, Bangladesh get a wicket and Sri Lanka are seven down now as Wanindu Hasaranga walks off. Tossed it up and around off, too full, Wanindu goes on his knees, also clears out his front leg away to get more access. But the ball is too close to his body and thus, he doesn't get the desired elevation. The ball goes high in the air and towards deep mid-wicket, where Tanzim Hasan Sakib moves to his left there and pouches it around his chest height. Bangladesh are 156/7.

34.2Outside off, punched towards cover.
34.1Landed outside off, Wanindu Hasaranga pushes it through point for a single.
DRINKS BREAK. 16 runs in the last 2 overs. All of a sudden, the pressure is shifting back onto the bowling side. This is what good sides do. They keep soaking up the pressure and work on those small small singles. Then suddenly, when they feel that the bowling side is getting a bit too preoccupied in just stopping the singles, boom. That's exactly what Hasaranga has done. He has got the target down under 100 and with every 10 runs being shaved off, the visitors will feel the pressure as well. The fact that one wicket could actually derail this chase, could force the tourists try even more desperately to pick up a wicket and in that process, concede a few runs. Also, with Shamim and Tanvir to bowl out, whom does Mehidy turn to? He will have to go back to pace which has not been very kind to his side so far.
33.6Around off, driven through mid off for one more.
33.5Huge shouts for LBW! Extended appeals as well. But the umpire keeps his finger down and interestingly, Bangladesh do not review. An arm ball, around middle and leg, WH comes forward to defend but misses and is hit on the pads. That seemed to be going down the leg side to the naked eye. In fact, Ball Tracking confirms it to be pitching outside leg itself.
33.4Around off, 83 kph, Janith Liyanage leans and pushes it through the covers for a run.
33.3Around off, Wanindu stays leg side of the ball and drives it through mid off for a single.
33.2FOUR! SLAP! 150 UP FOR SRI LANKA! And now they need 99 more from 100 balls! Hasaranga looking to change the momentum now. Full, around off, Hasaranga gets down on a knee and mows the slog sweep through mid-wicket!
33.1Full, outside off, Wanindu Hasaranga reaches out and steers it wide of slip, to his right, for a couple.
32.6FOUR! A boundary after 52 balls! Welcome relief for Sri Lanka. A short ball, around middle and off, Janith Liyanage initially ducks but at the last moment, ramps it over the keeper to the deep third fence! That's the first over which has gone for more than 6 runs since the 13th over!
32.5On a length, just outside off, slanting away, Liyanage slashes but misses.
32.4Down the leg side, Janith Liyanage works it through mid-wicket for a couple. 109 more needed from 104 balls.
32.3Fuller, around off, Wanindu allows the ball to come onto the bat and pushes this in front of point for a single. That's the first run after 9 straight dots!
32.2On a length, outside off, slanting away, Hasaranga looks to play the drive on the up but misses.
32.1Mustafizur Rahman is brought back on, as Mehidy attempts to change the pace again. But this could be a big gamble, with pace proving costly so far. On a length, around middle, Wanindu Hasaranga defends.
31.6Landed around off, 90 kph, Liyanage stays back to defend. Ironic as might seem, this is the FIRST MAIDEN for Tanvir and just the second overall in this innings!
31.5Landed around off, 83 kph, Janith Liyanage plays it very late, almost from the off stump, pushing it towards point. Sets off for the single but is sent back.
31.4Shorter in length, JL stays back to punch it back to the bowler.
31.3That's a classical left-arm delivery. Tossed up, outside off, slowness in pace, dipping onto the batter and then drifting away, Janith lunges to defend but the ball pitches and whizzes past the outside edge.
31.2Around off, wide again, once again Liyanage reaches out to meet the ball, pushing it towards point.
31.1Tossed up, wide outside off, Janith Liyanage leans to drive but gets an outside edge towards backward point.
30.6Full and outside off, 92 kph, punched back to the bowler.
30.5Outside off, 90 kph, a touch short, Janith Liyanage backs away and punches it through the covers for another single.
30.4Full, around off, 81 kph, Wanindu stays leg side of the ball and drives it towards long off for one.
30.3Slower through the air, 78 kph, around leg stump, Hasaranga stays leg side of the ball and jabs it towards short mid-wicket.
30.2Outside off, a touch short, punched through the covers for a run.
30.1Tossed up, on off, Wanindu Hasaranga comes down the track and works it towards long on for a single.
After 30 overs, Sri Lanka are 133/6. At the same stage, Bangladesh were 160/5. But let's not forget that the visitors did not play out 25 balls towards the end. Just imagine. 25 balls. Another 20 runs. How crucial would those have been?
29.6In the air...but safe! Tossed it up and around off, Wanindu Hasaranga is drawn forward as he goes for a drive down the ground. The ball goes uppishly to the left of the bowler, who tries to get his left hand there for a catch but the ball lands down ahead and goes to long off. They take a single.
29.5Dragged length and outside off, Wanindu Hasaranga pushes it to cover.
Wanindu Hasaranga walks in next, at number 8, replacing Dunith Wellalage.
29.4OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Tanvir Islam has a four-fer and he has completely changed the game! Gives flight and pitches it full and around leg, as he sees the batter advancing. Dunith Wellalage skips down the wicket to negotiate the turn but gets undone by the leg line of the ball. He has to adjust his shot and stance and looks to field out this into the leg side. Gets an inside edge and the ball clips his front pad and lobs up beside the pitch behind the wickets on the leg side. The keeper, Jaker Ali quickly moves there and takes this simple catch. Bangladesh are 132/6.
29.3Nagging length and around off, Janith Liyanage comes forward to defend but gets beaten by the turn and only manages to get an inside edge. The ball goes through his legs to short fine and they take a single.
29.2Slower through the air, full and around off, Janith Liyanage comes forward and defends it towards cover.
29.1Around off, keeps it out towards cover point off the front foot by Janith.
28.6A bit fuller and around off, Dunith Wellalage comes forward and drives it to cover. Just 5 runs in the last four overs.
28.5This is some accurate bowling from the spinners of Bangladesh. Attacks the stumps and on a tempting length, Dunith Wellalage pushes it back to the bowler.
28.4Full and outside off, Janith Liyanage slices it through cover point for one.
28.3On the pads, nudged away to mid-wicket by Janith.
28.2Turns back in, on a nagging length and around off, Janith Liyanage backs away and manages to keep it out into the off side.
28.1Slower but on a dragged length and around off, Janith Liyanage chops it out to cover.
27.6Nagging length and around off, Dunith Wellalage presses back and clips it to mid-wicket.
27.5A loopy one now, full and around off, Dunith Wellalage gets forward and blocks it off.
27.4Outside off, sliced away to deep point for one by Janith.
27.3BEATEN! A slower delivery, on a dragged length and just outside off, Janith Liyanage goes back and looks to cut it but misses. The keeper catches it in the second attempt as the ball lobs up in the first out of his gloves and he appeals for caught behind but the umpire is unmoved. Bangladesh are getting exciting and for a reason as they are bossing the game right now.
27.2Slower and short, outside off, Janith Liyanage manages to push it again to extra cover this time.
27.1Nagging length and around off, Janith Liyanage goes back and punches it to cover.
26.6Dragged length and around off, Dunith Wellalage goes back and punches it back to the bowler. A brilliant over from Shamim Hossain. Just one off it.
26.5Tossed it up and around off, Dunith Wellalage pushes it towards cover, where Mehidy dives to his right and cuts it off.
26.4On the pads, tucked away to deep backward square leg for one by Janith.
26.3A massive appeal for caught behind from the keeper but the umpire shakes his head! Bangladesh have taken a review after considering that there is something touched when the ball has passed the batter. Darted in quicker and full, down the leg side, Janith Liyanage comes forward and looks to tickle it fine but misses and the keeper collects it to his left behind the stumps. Third umpire is called in and he checks the replays where it is confirmed that the ball has missed the bat and clipped the thigh pad on its way to the keeper. The on-field call stays.
26.2On the pads, flicked but straight to square leg by Janith.
26.1A bit fuller and around off, Janith Liyanage pushes it back to the bowler.
Inspirational bowling change by Mehidy. One was just getting the feeling that it was getting more of the same with Mehidy and Shamim bowling in tandem and in the very first over of the change, the bowler struck.
25.6Similar shorter and around middle, Dunith turns it to square leg off the back foot. Just two runs and a wicket off this over.
25.5Dragged length and around off, Dunith Wellalage comes forward and defends it into the pitch.
25.4Floated up and around off, Janith Liyanage uses his feet and drives it to wide long off for one.
25.3On the pads, knocked down to long on for one by Dunith.
Dunith Wellalage walks in next, at number 7, replacing Kamindu Mendis.
25.2OUT! CAUGHT! A soft dismissal for Kamindu Mendis and Tanvir Islam picks his third. On the shorter side and around middle, not a wicket-taking delivery, but Kamindu goes back and looks to chip it into the leg side for a single with soft hands. He fails to keep it along the ground, as the ball seems to be stuck in the wicket and comes later than he would have expected to be. The ball goes flat to the mid-wicket fielder, where Mehidy Hasan Miraz leaps a bit and takes it with both hands above his head. This is a big wicket and Tanvir is pumped up. Sri Lanka are 126/5.
25.1Tossed it up and around middle, Kamindu Mendis nudges it to mid on.
Tanvir Islam returns. 4-0-25-2 so far, as Mehidy looks to change the momentum. After 25 overs, Sri Lanka are 126/4. At the same stage, Bangladesh were 137/4.
24.6Nagging length and outside off, Janith Liyanage clips it to square leg.
24.5A bit fuller and outside off, Kamindu Mendis slices it to deep backward point for one.
24.4Dropped! A touch short delivery, outside off, Kamindu Mendis goes back and plays it very late to guide it towards short third. Gets an outside edge that goes pretty quickly towards the keeper behind the wickets, where it doesn't stick to the gloves of Jaker Ali. The ball rolls away towards backward point and Shamim Hossain can't believe his luck as he looks distraught.
24.3Fuller, on middle, pushed back to the bowler.
24.2Around middle, flicked straight to short mid-wicket.
24.1FOUR! JUST OVER! Fractionally short, outside off, Kamindu Mendis goes for the pull over mid-wicket. But the ball bounces a bit and hits the splice of the bat. Tawhid Hridoy leaps to his fullest stretch at short mid-wicket but the ball tips over, to the fence behind! Kamindu moves to 32 (45).
23.6Full and around off, Janith Liyanage taps it towards cover point and wants to have a quick single but is sent back by his partner as the fielder is too quick there to get to the ball and throw it to the keeper. Right call. The fielder does not collect the ball though as Liyanage dives home.
23.5A bit short and around middle, Janith Liyanage clips it towards square leg.
23.5WIDE! Sprays it full and down the leg side, Janith Liyanage looks to tickle it fine but misses. The keeper collects it to his left behind the wickets and appeals for caught behind, more to distract the umpire. But it is given a wide.
23.4Tempting length and around off, Janith Liyanage goes back and flicks it to mid-wicket.
23.3FOUR! That will relieve the pressure! This one spins from middle, down the leg side, Liyanage does enough to get some bat on it, to just direct the ball to the right of short fine leg, for a boundary! 129 more needed from 159 balls now.
23.2Tossed up, on middle and off, Janith Liyanage comes down the track and looks to flick but falls over while playing that shot. Gets a leading edge which goes along the ground towards cover.
23.1Good early call. Landed outside off, 93 kph, Kamindu Mendis pushes it with soft hands into the gap at cover and calls his partner through for a quick single.
22.6On the shorter side and around middle, Janith pushes it to mid-wicket off the back foot.
22.5Nagging length and around off, Kamindu Mendis goes back and punches it to long off for a run.
22.4Touch short, around off, stays a bit low as well, Janith Liyanage backs away and pats it down through cover point for one.
22.3Carbon copy of the previous delivery.
22.2The arm ball, around middle, from over the wicket, Janith Liyanage defends.
22.1Full, outside off, 96 kph, Kamindu Mendis leans and drives it through the covers for a single.
21.6Sliding on the pads, nudged away towards deep square leg for one by Kamindu Mendis.
21.5Sharp turn! Floated up, around off, turns away with the arm ball, Kamindu Mendis is drawn forward into his defence and he is beaten on the outside edge.
21.4FOUR! Boundary after 51 balls. Tossed it up and around off, Kamindu Mendis gets down on his knees and reverse-sweeps it towards deep third for a boundary to break the shackles. That's how good the spinners of Bangladesh have been in the last nine overs or so.
21.3Outside off, 88 kph, Janith leans and presses this into the off side, between cover and point, for a quick single.
21.2Fuller, around off, 83 kph, Liyanage lunges to keep it out.
21.1Down the leg side, 84 kph, Janith Liyanage works it towards square leg.
20.6Fuller and around off, Kamindu Mendis drives it straight to cover. The pressure is mounting as the boundaries have dried up, and even the singles are coming here and there, making it tough for the batters to rotate the strike with some good infield fielding.
20.5Darts in full and around off, Janith Liyanage uses his feet and drills it to long on for one.
20.4Nagging length and around middle, Janith Liyanage goes back and pushes it to mid-wicket.
20.3The arm ball, outside off, Janith Liyanage punches it towards cover.
20.2Outside off, Kamindu Mendis comes forward and drives it towards long off for a single.
20.1A short delivery, around middle, tucked to the leg side.
After 20 overs, Sri Lanka are 104/4. Bangladesh were 110/3. Nothing much to choose, aye?
19.6That stays low! Outside off, Liyanage stays back to defend but the ball shoots low and somehow, Liyanage manages to keep it out!
19.5Full, outside off, 86 kph, Liyanage lunges to block.
19.4Around off, skidding through, short of full, Janith Liyanage goes back and defends.
19.3Pushed towards long off for a single.
19.2On middle, Kamindu comes down the track and works it towards short mid-wicket.
19.1Down the leg side, Kamindu Mendis flicks it through mid-wicket and finds some open space to come back for the second.
18.6Pushed down the ground for a run. 3 runs and a wicket from the over, Shamim Hossain's bowling figures read 3-1-6-1!
18.5100 UP FOR SRI LANKA! 149 more needed from 187 balls. Outside off, fuller in length, Janith Liyanage leans and drives it through cover for a single to get off the mark.
Janith Liyanage walks in next, at number 6, replacing his skipper, Charith Asalanka.
18.4OUT! CAUGHT! MAIDEN ODI WICKET FOR SHAMIM! The pressure tells and a mistake is committed! That is a team wicket. In Powerplay 2, the fielding captain is allowed to keep four fielders outside the 30-yard circle. But Mehidy chose to keep only three, making singles difficult for the batters to attain and the temptation of going over the top dangling. And the entire bowling unit has done well in cutting off both, boundaries and runs. Both, Asalanka and Kamindu tried to veer away from that temptation of going over the top, but eventually, Asalanka's patience wears off. A short ball, around middle and leg, Charith Asalanka looks to heave it over mid on but plays a bit too early. The ball hits the toe end of his bat and lobs tamely to mid on where Tanvir Islam takes it calmly. Asalanka departs for 6 (17) and from 75/1, Sri Lanka are now 99/4! Equation - 150 from 188.
18.3Fired down the leg side, from around the wicket, very quick through the air, 97 kph, Charith Asalanka nudges it towards short mid-wicket.
18.2Comes down the track and works it through mid-wicket for a single.
18.1Full and around leg stump, Kamindu Mendis defends it down the pitch.

17.4Fourth dot on the trot. Around middle and leg, 87 kph, KM works it towards short mid-wicket.
17.3Slightly slower, 87 kph, short of full, Mendis stays back and works it towards short mid-wicket.
17.2Full and straight, the arm ball, 93 kph, Kamindu defends.
17.1Full and just outside off, 88 kph, Kamindu Mendis gets a big stride to defend the ball towards cover.
16.6Around off, punched down to long off for a run.
16.5Pushed through, outside off, way quicker, 96 kph, Charith leans and pushes it uppishly. The ball lands short and goes away to cover's right, who dives that side but cannot stop the ball. A single taken.
16.4Flighted, outside off, Asalanka leans and drives it towards cover.
16.3Full and fast, around off, 84 kph, Charith Asalanka looks to sweep and gets it off the toe end of the bat towards short fine leg.

16.1A bit of a round-arm action, from around the wicket, around off, pretty full, Kamindu Mendis defends into the leg side.
15.6Down the leg side, Mendis gets across and nudges it towards square leg for a run.
15.5Around off, pushed towards cover.
15.4Full, around middle and leg, Charith Asalanka gets down to paddle but misses. The ball goes off his pads through square leg and the players go up in an LBW appeal but that seemed to be heading down the leg side. Additionally, as the batters take the single, there is no signal from the umpire. So might have been an involvement of wood.
15.3Around off, solidly defended.
15.2A touch short, outside off, 87 kph, Kamindu punches it to the right of cover for a single.
15.1Full, around off, from around the wicket, Kamindu Mendis lunges and defends.
Seems like this is the DRINKS BREAK. A bit of a good passage of play for the visiting side. The last 6 overs have gone for just 17 runs and yielded 2 wickets. The required rate is not a question at all, but with the runs not coming easily all of a sudden, Bangladesh are trying to entice the batters into committing mistakes. It definitely seems as if fast bowling is a lot easier to play as compared to spin bowling, so expect a lot of tweakers in this chase. What Kusal Mendis' blitzkrieg has done is - allowed the batters after him to take their time to settle in.
14.6Tossed it up and around off, Charith Asalanka slices it towards cover point. Maiden from Shamim Hossain.
14.5On the shorter side and around off, Charith Asalanka blocks it out.
14.4Just short! A bit fuller and outside off, Charith Asalanka comes forward and pushes it on the up towards cover. The ball goes uppishly there and Mehidy Hasan Miraz dives forward but the ball falls short of him.
14.3Nagging length and around off, Charith Asalanka defends it.
14.2Dragged length and around off, Charith Asalanka pushes it to cover.
14.1Darts in full and on leg, Charith Asalanka backs away, clears out his front leg away and looks to flick it but misses and gets hit on the pads. Half of an appeal there, but it is going down leg.
Interesting. Shamim Hossain has been given the ball now. Off spinner, but a part timer, at best.
13.6Flighted, full and outside off, gets a bit of turn, Kamindu Mendis is drawn forward as he looks to push it into the off side but gets a big outside edge. The ball goes past the keeper to his left and they take two runs. Short third chases it down.
13.5Make it five! Nagging length and outside off, Kamindu Mendis gets on the front foot and punches it to cover again.
13.4Four dots in a row! Full and around off, Kamindu pushes it towards cover.
13.3Floated, full and around off, Kamindu Mendis takes a big stride forward and shows the full face of the bat to defend.
13.2Full and around off, Kamindu drives it towards cover and wants to have a single but is sent back.
13.1Tossed it up and just outside off, Kamindu Mendis comes forward and looks to drive it but gets it off the inner half of the bat back to the bowler.
12.6FOUR! Thrashed through the covers! Lands it full and outside off, Charith Asalanka leans onto it and creams his drive through the gap at covers for a boundary to open his account.
12.5Nagging length and around off, Charith Asalanka comes forward and drops it down beside the pitch on the leg side.
12.4Fuller and again around middle, similar line, Kamindu comes forward and flicks it to deep backward square leg for one.
12.3On a length and around middle, angling in, Kamindu Mendis takes a step forward and clips it to mid-wicket. He wants to have a single but is sent back.
12.2Sprayed on the pads and on the fuller length, Kamindu Mendis goes across and flicks it through mid-wicket and instantly calls for two and completes it.
12.1On a good length and outside off, Kamindu Mendis moves across and pats it down towards cover.
11.6Nagging length and around off, Charith Asalanka defends it off the back foot.
Skipper Charith Asalanka walks in next, at number 5, replacing Kusal Mendis. This time, he walks in with around one-third of the target shaved off.
11.5OUT! LBW! Excellent review from Bangladesh. Flatter, full and around off, Kusal Mendis comes down the track and looks to flick but as the ball stays low, he plays the wrong line and misses. Gets thud on the front pad and there is a loud appeal for LBW from the bowler, but the umpire shakes his head! Tanvir convinces his skipper with the keeper to take a review! The ball has hit the pad very low, so this could be the reason. The third umpire is called in, and there is no need for the UltraEdge, as clearly there is no bat involved. Ball Tracking comes up with three reds. The on-field umpire has to change his decision, and Tanvir Islam is pumped up. Kusal Mendis walks off after a wonderful knock of 56 runs off just 31 balls. From 75/1, Sri Lanka are now 82/3, with both set batters back in the pavillion. Equation - 167 from 229.
11.4Fuller and around off, Kamindu Mendis skips down the track and flicks it towards mid-wicket, who fumbles in collecting the ball and lets it through himself. A single taken.
11.3Drags his length back and keeps it into the stumps, Kusal Mendis goes across and turns it towards square leg for another single.
11.2Similar flighted ball, full and around off, Kusal keeps it out towards the off side.
11.1Flighted full and around off, Kusal Mendis comes forward and shows the full face of the bat to defend it.
10.6Tossed it up, around middle, Kusal Mendis uses his feet now and knocks it down to long on for one more.
10.5A bit fuller and around leg, stays a bit low as well, Kusal Mendis plays it off the back foot and adjusts his shot to nudge it towards mid-wicket.
10.4Good single! Touch short and outside off, Kamindu Mendis cuts it down to the right of cover for a quick run.
10.3Full and around off, defended back to the bowler off the front foot by Kamindu Mendis.
10.2Much shorter and outside off, Kamindu Mendis presses back and punches it through covers. Tawhid Hridoy runs in to his left from deep cover and cuts it off. Two runs taken.
10.1Dragged length and around middle, Kusal Mendis clears out his front leg away and swipes it to deep square leg for a single. The crowd is getting excited with his each shot.
That was some Powerplay 1 by the hosts. 75/2 as compared to 65/1 from Bangladesh. Not much difference at this stage but the middle overs caused problems to the visitors. Powerplay 2 has been signalled. 4 fielders allowed outside the 30-yard circle till the 40th over. Here's the skipper, Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
9.6Nagging length and around off, gets it to turn away a bit, Kamindu Mendis comes forward and looks to flick it and he close the bat face but gets a leading edge and the ball rolls away towards mid off. Sri Lanka are 75/2 after Powerplay 1.
9.5Floated up and around off, Kamindu Mendis uses his feet now to negotiate the turn and pushes it back to the bowler.
9.4Drops it a bit short and around off, Kamindu Mendis get squared up in playng through the line and ends up getting a leading edge towards backward point as he goes to defend it with a straight bat.
Kamindu Mendis walks in next, at number 4, replacing Nishan Madushka.
9.3OUT! CAUGHT! Stop the press. Bangladesh have got a wicket. Well, a critic might say, this was extremely needless by Madushka. But spare a thought for the batter as well. Amidst all the ambience created by Mendis, it is pretty difficult to stay calm. Just a reminder, that is was Madushka who had got the ball rolling in this chase. But Kusal's lightning has stolen Madushka's thunder. Tossed up, outside off, Nishan Madushka jumps down the track and looks to go inside out but is not to the pitch of the ball. Gets an outside edge which goes high in the air, towards point. Tawhid Hridoy backtracks at point and takes it easily. The 69-run stand is broken and Sri Lanka are 75/2 after 9.3 overs. Need another 174 from 243 balls.
9.2Full, a bit slower, around middle and leg, Mendis works it through mid-wicket for a single.
9.1Landed outside off, skids through, Kusal Mendis defends.
8.6Goes full and around off, Kusal drills it towards mid on, who dives across to his left and cuts it off. A single taken. Back-to-back 17-run overs!
8.5Oh, Mustafizur Rahman gets away now! On a length and around middle, a slower one, Kusal Mendis goes back and defends it.
8.4FOUR! FIFTY FOR KUSAL MENDIS! Fourth straight boundary to get it in just 20 balls! What an inning this is from a class and talented player! On a good length and outside off, Kusal remains deep in his crease and opens his bat face very late to guide it through the gap at backward point for a boundary to bring his milestone. He takes off his helmet and makes a gesture towards the crowd and his fans.
8.3FOUR! Hattrick of boundaries! On a length, outside off, slightly wider, Kusal Mendis actually tries to steer this towards deep third but gets it way too finer than he would have liked. The ball runs off the outside edge, but well of the diving keeper, to his right, and races to the deep third fence! The stand moves to 63 (39).
8.2FOUR MORE! Off side, leg side, does not matter! This guy is looking unstoppable. This is not a bad ball by any means, as Mustafizur lands it on a length outside off. But under lights, both balls are skidding off nicely from the deck. That is making the balls travel faster to the bat and Mendis just punches it through the covers. Moves to 43 (18) with his 8th four!
8.1FOUR! SLAM! That desperation gets even bigger now. A short ball, around off, angling away, Kusal Mendis transfers his weight on the back foot pretty quickly and pulls it through mid-wicket for a boundary! 188 more needed from 251 balls.
Mustafizur Rahman has been given the ball now. Bangladesh need a couple of wickets desperately.
7.6Nagging length and around off, Nishan Madushka punches it to cover. 17 from the over, the most expensive one of the match!
Oops...what happened there? While trying to pull the ball back, Najmul Hossain Shanto seems to have got his right leg jarred into the ground and has caused some damage to himself. The physio is out there to have a check on him. The batters call for drinks in the meantime. Good to resume.
7.5Excellent effort from Najmul Hossain Shanto. Floated up and a bit outside off, Kusal Mendis uses his feet and looks to loft it inside out over covers, but gets it off the outer half of the bat, and the ball is sliced over the backward point fielder, Shanto, who tries to backtrack it. He goes after it to chase it down and puts in a dive forward to flick the ball inside the field. Gets up and throws it to the keeper to save one run for his side. Third umpire is called in to check whether it is a boundary or not. He watches the replays and confirms that he hasn't touched the boundary cushions while trying to flick the ball inside the field and calls that three runs. 50-RUN STAND IS UP!
7.4Tossed up and around middle, Kusal Mendis comes forward and shows the full face of the bat to defend it.
7.3SIX! Mendis is just taking a liking to the left-arm spinner! Flighted, around middle and off, hint of away turn, Kusal Mendis jumps down the track to go down the ground but is not quite to the pitch of the ball. But he still goes through with the shot and clears mid on and eventually, the ropes, with ease. Mendis moves to 32 (14). 50 UP FOR SRI LANKA and they now need 195 runs from 255 balls.
7.2FOUR MORE! Overcompensation from Tanvir, firing this down the leg side, Mendis gets down on a knee again and sweeps it behind square leg for consecutive boundaries! The stand moves to 42 (32).
7.1FOUR! PUMMELED! Tossed up, outside off, Kusal Mendis gets down on a knee, reaches out and mows a slog sweep over mid-wicket. One bounce and into the fence!
6.6Hard length and around off, Nishan Madushka taps it towards cover point and wants to have a single. Kusal Mendis responds and takes a few steps forward but is sent back by Nishan as the backward point fielder gets to the ball with a slide and cuts it off.
6.5Nagging length and outside off, Nishan Madushka stands tall and flat-bats it to mid off.
6.4A full toss, around off, Kusal Mendis gets a bit surprised and only manages to drill it off the inner half of the bat towards mid on. A single taken but Mendis will think that he has missed out on this opportunity.
6.3FOUR! POUNDED! Mendis has come out with a mood to take the bowling on. Similar to the previous ball and hence, the stroke is also the same. Only on this occasion, the pull shot is delayed slightly, but still, it is not met perfectly. The ball runs off the inner half of the bat but the timing is good enough to take the ball to the mid-wicket fence, between mid on and short mid-wicket. The stand moves to 33 (27).
6.2A short ball, outside off, 129 kph, Kusal Mendis tries to take it on, looking to pull it over mid-wicket but is early into the stroke. The ball comes slowly off the surface and goes off the toe end of the bat, towards mid on.
6.1On a good length, outside off, coming in with the angle, Nishan Madushka allows the ball to come to him and steers the ball with an open bat face behind point, for a single.
5.6FOUR! Safe shot! Floated up and on the pads, Kusal Mendis uses his feet, gets to the pitch of the ball, and lofts it over mid-wicket for a boundary. Though the bat face gets turned in his hands during the connection with the ball, there is enough connection to clear the infield.
5.5Fuller and on the pads, Kusal Mendis clips it to mid-wicket, who fumbles in collecting the ball properly but the batters don't take any run. The ball goes nowhere.
5.4Tossed it up and around middle, Nishan Madushka stays leg side of the ball and drives it to long off for one more.
5.3A touch short, outside off, punched straight to cover.
5.2Down the leg side, helped towards short fine leg.
5.1Full, around middle, watchfully defended.
Spin now. Here's Tanvir Islam.
4.6FOUR OVERTHROWS! Tough luck for Bangladesh. Remember the great Kapil Dev's words around 2007, when he had opined that overthrows off deflection from the stumps should not be considered. Landed outside off, Mendis looks to punch but his bottom hand comes off the bat. The ball goes towards point. Najmul Hossain Shanto charges onto the ball from backward point, picks the ball up and has a needless shy at the bowling end. Hits the stumps directly but to his bad luck, the ball deflects towards the mid-wicket boundary. Well, the throw was needless, no argument, but shouldn't some consideration be given for direct hits, to encourage good fielding?
4.5Correction from Mahmud, landing it full and just outside off, Kusal defends.
4.4FOUR! Loose ball and punished. A bit too straight, on middle and leg, Mendis stands his ground and whips it over mid-wicket for his first boundary.
4.3Outside off, punched straight to point this time.
4.2This one also nips back in a long way, from outside off, Kusal Mendis looks to punch but is cramped for room and gets a bottom edge to the off side.
4.1Good running. On a length outside off, jags back in sharply, Nishan Madushka looks to push it through the off side but gets a thick inside edge onto his pads. The ball rolls to the off side, beside the pitch and Mendis quickly calls him through for the single. The bowler joins the running race with Mendis and tries to cause an under-arm flick at the striker's end but misses. Would not have mattered as Kusal was easily in.
3.6Around off, pushed through mid on for a single. 10 from the over. The costliest of the innings so far.
3.5FOUR! Wow, this guy is looking in amazing touch tonight. A short ball, outside off, Nishan Madushka gets on top of the bounce, swivels, takes charge of the ball and pulls it behind square leg for the second boundary of the over!
3.4Similar ball, Nishan is right behind the ball, leaning to meet the ball. Pushes this confidently towards cover.
3.3Closer to the off stump, Madushka defends.
3.2FOUR! CARESSED! Don't bowl over there. He will keep on driving you all day. Overpitched, outside off, Nishan Madushka comes forward and drives it gloriously through the covers.
3.1Lovely length. Just short of full, Kusal Mendis is pushing forward to defend. But the ball pitches and bounces, nipping back in sharply. Goes off the top half of the bat towards deep third. A single taken.
2.6Full and outside off, Nishan shoulders arms.
2.5Outside off, dabbed to short third.
2.4Wonderful riposte. On a length, outside off, Madushka looks to play inside the line and gets beaten, as the ball straightens and goes past the outside edge. The keeper, Jaker Ali, collects and straightaway celebrates for the catch but the bowler has heard nothing.
2.3FOUR! PLUNDERED! Short and wide outside off, Nishan Madushka stands tall and punches it through the covers! 239 more needed from 285 balls.
2.2Around off, solidly defended.
2.1A short ball, outside off, Nishan Madushka slashes but misses.
Kusal Mendis walks in next, at number 3, replacing Pathum Nissanka.
1.6OUT! LBW! Tell you what, Bangladesh will be honest enough to admit that they have got a lucky one here. On a good length, outside off, Nissanka stays back to work it to the leg side but the ball pitches and then shoots a fraction low, catching the batter in his crease. Nissanka is unable to adjust to the sharp shoot and misses his flick, getting hit on the pads. Tanzim appeals and for a while, it seems like the umpire will not give it out. But almost when the appeal is about to die down, the finger goes up! Nissanka takes the review, after a small chat with his partner and first up, UltraEdge detects no bat involved. Time for Ball Tracking. Clipping the outer half of leg stump! Umpire's call on hitting which means that the review will be retained but Nissanka has to go! Departs for 5 (8) and Sri Lanka are 6/1 after 2 overs! Need another 243 from 288 balls.
Given out LBW! To the naked eye, that seemed to be going down the leg side and probably that's why, Nissanka has reviewed this. The ball did stay low a fraction but the angle definitely seemed to be going down leg. Or maybe not! Umpire's call it is on hitting the leg stump and Nissanka has to go!
1.5On a length again, outside off, decent bounce, Pathum rises with the bounce and punches it towards cover.
1.4Fuller this time, pushed towards mid off.
1.3FOUR! There is the first boundary of the chase! On a length, outside off, Pathum Nissanka punches it through the gap between cover and point, rising with the bounce, finding the gap and boundary. Farveez Maharoof on air remembers that this is the same way Nissanka got off the mark and also his century in the second Test. Amazing memory.
1.2Outside off, back of a length, Nissanka punches it towards cover.
1.1A quick short ball, around off, Pathum Nissanka goes for the pull but is hurried into the shot. Gets hit on the back of the bat and the ball rolls down on the off side.
A fair bit of movement for Hasan Mahmud in that opening over. Will be interesting to see how does the second new ball work out. In case you have not realized, Jaker Ali is the man with the gloves for Bangladesh tonight, in the absence of Litton Das. Here's Tanzim Hasan Sakib.
0.6On a good length, outside off, hits the bat hard, NM punches it towards point.
Extra cover moves to square leg now. That means Hasan Mahmud can be a bit more straighter.
0.5Slash and a miss. Fractionally short and wide outside off, Nishan throws his bat at it but does not move his feet and misses.
