Indian women's cricket team captain Mithali Raj may not have been able to win this year's Women's World Cup for India but she definitely won many hearts with her determination and consistent performance.

To recognise her achievements V Chamundeswaranath, businessman and former chairman of the Andhra Cricket Association has announced that he will gift her a brand new BMW car once she returns to her hometown Hyderabad, Telangana.

“Mithali has been a great influence on Indian cricket. The way she has led the side is remarkable. For a number of years, she has been the leading light of the Indian women’s cricket”, he said in a report by The Times of India.

Mithali Raj, who became the first Indian cricket captain to lead the team in two ODI world cup finals has also become the only women cricketer to cross the 6000-run mark in ODI cricket.

This year itself Mithali scored 10 fifty-plus scores in Women’s ODIs which is the most by a batswoman in a calendar year in ODIs.

This is not the first instance that V Chamundeswarnath has gifted cars to sportspersons. He had previously grabbed headlines when he gifted BMWs to PV Sindhu, Sakshi Malik, Dipa Karmarkar and Pullela Gopichand after the Rio Olympics.
