Haryana issues advisory on consumption of bottle gourd juice

Chandigarh, Feb 10 (PTI) With a few instances of people taking ill after consuming bottle gourd (Lauki) juice, Haryana Health Department today issued an advisory asking people not to take the vegetable in any form if it tastes bitter. In its advisory, the Department said that a small piece of bottle gourd should be tasted before extracting the juice to ensure that it was not bitter. Bitter tasting "Lauki" should not be consumed at all and its juice should not be mixed with any other juice, an official release here quoting a spokesman of the Health Department said. "In case after consumption of Lauki juice there was any discomfort, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea or any other feeling of uneasiness, the person should immediately be taken to the nearby hospital," the spokesman said. There had been a few instances in the past, with people reporting to hospitals with health complaints after consuming "Lauki" juice.
