Bollywood actor Armaan Jain, the cousin of Kareena Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor, has been summoned for questioning again on February 17 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
ED is investigating if Jain had business dealings with Vihang Sarnaik, the son of Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik, as a part of its investigation into the Tops Grup. The investigative agency is probing a contract given to the Tops Grup for security services by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
ED has discovered chats related to business dealings between Jain and the younger Sarnaik.
The agency has alleged that Tops Grup gave kickbacks to Pratap Sarnaik, who helped the company in getting the MMRDA contract.
ED conducted a search at Jain’s house on February 9. However, on that day, his uncle Rajeev Kapoor, the son of Bollywood legend Raj Kapoor, passed away so the agency concluded its search. Jain’s mother Reema Kapoor is the daughter of Raj Kapoor and sister of Rajeev Kapoor.
The investigative agency had summoned Jain on February 11 but he did not show up.
Between 2014 and 2017, the MMRDA gave security contracts for MMRDA lands. However, the number of security personnel was far lower than stipulated in the contract. Employees who were not even on the site were allegedly being billed.
Recently, ED summoned RA Rajeev - the commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) - for questioning.
In 2020, ED conducted searches on the property of MLA Sarnaik in connection with this case. It also arrested Amit Chandole, a close aide of Sarnaik.
