Temasek appoints ex-DBS Group CEO Piyush Gupta as India Chairman

Singapore's  state-owned multinational investment firm Temasek Holdings on November 28 announced that it has appointed Piyush Gupta in an advisory capacity as its Chairman in India, effective from December 1.

As part of his non-executive role, Gupta will work closely with Temasek's head of India and strategic initiatives Ravi Lambah on its investment strategies, the company said. It added that he will also partner with and support Temasek Portfolio Companies as they identify opportunities in India. Gupta will also take on an institutional focus for Temasek by engaging with the Indian government and business communities, it further said.

Earlier, Gupta served as the CEO of DBS Group between 2009 and 2025. During his tenure at the bank, Gupta "led its widely recognised digital transformation and regional expansion for it to become one of the world's best banks", Temasek said. He is currently the Deputy Chairman of Keppel, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Singapore Management University, and Chairman of Mandai Park Holdings Board.

"Piyush brings extensive business insights and strong connections developed over decades in financial services. Complementing Ravi’s leadership of our India market, he will provide strategic counsel and help strengthen our institutional networks in India and beyond, enhance our franchise value, and expand our portfolio access," said Dilhan Pillay, Executive Director and CEO, Temasek Holdings.

Speaking about his appointment, Piyush Gupta said that he is honoured with this opportunity to work with the Temasek India team. "Having been engaged with the Temasek ecosystem for many years, I look forward to collaborating with the team to deepen partnerships, pursue new opportunities, and contribute to Temasek’s continued growth in India," he added.

Temasek manages a portfolio worth around $335 billion, and has been deepening its presence in India, which is a key growth market.
