The rupee opened 23 paise up on September 17 after the revival of the trade talks between India and the United States, currency experts said.
The currency opened at 87.82 against the dollar after closing the previous session at 88.05. This is the first time in two weeks that the rupee opened below the 88 mark.
Market mood, however, remains cautious, with investors closely following the US Federal Reserve’s policy meeting, as dollar softness globally is triggering rupee strength. The Fed's rate decision will be shared late in the night Indian time.
