SpiceJet Ltd has finalised a lease agreement to induct a wide-body Airbus A340 aircraft into its fleet, marking a key milestone in its expansion strategy. The airline said the aircraft will arrive in India by late September and is expected to begin operations in the first week of October, subject to regulatory approvals.
Initially operated on a wet lease, the aircraft will later transition to a damp lease arrangement, offering greater operational flexibility and cost savings. SpiceJet said the A340 is intended as a long-term addition to its fleet, with operations planned well beyond a year. The airline is also in advanced discussions to lease a second A340, underscoring its commitment to scaling up operations and enhancing connectivity.
This announcement follows SpiceJet’s recent agreements to induct 18 Boeing 737 aircraft, including four Boeing 737 MAX jets, beginning October 2025. “We are thrilled to introduce the Airbus A340 into our fleet as part of our ongoing efforts to enhance our service offerings and expand our domestic and international network,” said Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer of SpiceJet.
Shares of SpiceJet were trading at Rs 29.80 on Friday, down 1.88 percent, with a day’s high of Rs 30.37 and a low of Rs 29.50. The stock has declined 51.81 percent over the past year, moving between Rs 28.67 and Rs 69.25 during the period.
