Former Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Chairman M Damodaran led Excellence Enablers has launched a Pan-India Directors Community. The move is aimed at strengthening boardroom standards and modern governance practices. The move is expected to bring together independent and non-independent directors and professionals under one platform. He made these announcements on Thursday in Mumbai on 10th edition of Corporate Governance Summit: Enablers of Excellence.
Announcing the initiative Damodaran said, “I have heard from several people including regulators, that we hear directors have a problem but nobody ever tells us that”. Damodaran further added that, there is no organization and he does not intend this to be a formal, structured kind of organization. But an enabling platform where people can connect and discuss the issues, if any. Damodaran announced that, there are no admission fees and requested people to enroll.
Damodaran said, “We want this voice to be heard, we want this voice to be enriched by the opinions of a large number of people who are part of this community and yet haven't given expression to their thoughts. We want to bridge that particular gap”.
Damodaran also announced that a specialised advisory panel comprising senior domain experts from governance, law, regulation, audit, risk and corporate finance has been constituted to guide them. The advisory includes corporate lawyer Pallavi Shroff, TV Mohandas Pai, Chairman of Manipal Group of Education, V A George, Chairman of Thejo Engineering, management thinker Shiv Shivakumar and well-known chartered accountant and auditor PR Ramesh.
Excellence Enablers positions itself as a specialised partner to enable performance improvement. The platform brings together professionals with deep multi-decade experience and a shared commitment to governance quality and organisational excellence.
