Amid final hour selling, Indian benchmark indices failed to hold intraday gains and ended marginally lower in a volatile session on October 9.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has made no change in its key policy rates amid geopolitical and inflation concern, while shifted its stance to 'neutral' from 'withdrawal of accommodation'.
At close, the Sensex was down 167.71 points or 0.21 percent at 81,467.10, and the Nifty was down 31.20 points or 0.12 percent at 24,982.

Asian Equities (Gain)
Asian markets trade mostly higher on Thursday, following gains on Wall Street that saw the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average reach new records as investors shook off geopolitical concerns.

Wall Street stocks advanced on Wednesday with the S&P 500 and the Dow scoring record closing highs after the release of Federal Reserve meeting minutes and ahead of September inflation data and the earnings season.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 431.63 points, or 1.03%, to 42,512.00. The S&P 500 gained 40.91 points, or 0.71%, at 5,792.04 and the Nasdaq Composite climbed 108.70 points, or 0.60%, to 18,291.62.

The US 10-year Treasury yield shed 24 bps at 4.06 percent, while the US 2-year bond yield was down 36 bps at 4 percent.

The US dollar traded near a two-month peak against major peers on Thursday as markets grew more confident about a patient approach from the Federal Reserve to further monetary easing, even as a key inflation report loomed later in the day.
