First Tick: Here are the top global cues for today’s trade

The GIFT Nifty is indicating a firm start for the day.

Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 are likely to see a firm start on December 2, tracking cues from GIFT Nifty trading around 24,355.5, a short while ago this morning.

After witnessing a steep fall on November 28, the Indian benchmark indices bounced back on November 29 with Nifty starting the December F&O series above 24,100, led by buying in heavyweights and across sectors, barring realty and PSU banks.

At close, the Sensex was up 759.05 points or 0.96 percent at 79,802.79, and the Nifty was up 216.90 points or 0.91 percent at 24,131.10.

The GIFT Nifty is trading higher, indicating a firm start for the day. Nifty futures were trading at 24,355.5 at 07:00 am IST.

US Equities (Gains)

Global stock markets rallied on Friday, with Wall Street crowning November with its biggest monthly gain in a year on post-election growth hopes, while the dollar eased amid prospects for firmer rates in Japan and easing in Europe.

U.S. trading was thin the day after Thanksgiving. Many investors made it a long weekend and stocks and bonds closed early, so most month-end position adjustments were done before the holiday.

The S&P 500 rose 0.56% to mark the best monthly gain since November 2023 of 5.14%, while the Nasdaq’s 0.83% rise Friday secured a 6.2% gain for the month, it’s best since May.

US Bond Yield (Down)

The US 10-year Treasury yields slipped 200 basis points at 4.16 percent and the US 2-year bond yield was down nearly 2 percent at 4.15 percent on the previous session.

Dollar Index (Gains)

The dollar started in a cautious mood on Monday in what is shaping up to be a critical week for the prospect of U.S. rate cuts, while the yen's recent rebound was underpinned by wagers on rising rates at home.

Asian currencies (Down)

Asian currencies were trading mostly lower in the early trade on Monday. On month-to-date basis, Japanese Yen outperformed, while on year-to-basis, Malaysian Ringgit has outperformed the other currencies.
