Equity benchmarks closed the week on a positive note - the 50-share NSE Nifty went up 0.74%, to settle at 5,516.75 and the 30-share BSE Sensex rose 0.6%, to close at 18,376.48.
Among largecaps - Reliance Communications shot up 9.5% and Reliance Capital gained 7.5%. HUL, Ambuja Cements, Sun Pharma and Bajaj Auto surged 5-6%.However, Tata Motors lost 6.2% and M&M tumbled 5%. Hindalco was down 4.3% and Cairn India down 3.4%.The CNX Midcap Index went up 1.5%.In the midcap space, Britannia jumped 14%. Sterling Biotech, Monsanto and Aurobindo Pharma were up 7-11%.However, BEML, Educomp, Shree Cement, Cummins, MphasiS and Gammon India slipped 2-7%. Sun TV cracked 26.5% this week after media reports said the founder's brother, Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran, was named in a lawsuit related to the 2G probe.Sun TV has strongly denied any role in the 2G scam.
