In order to address the challenge of range anxiety being faced by existing Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) owners, JSW MG Motor India has partnered with leading charging infrastructure players for the rollout of a unified charging app named ‘eHUB’. To be available in 11 languages and open to all brands, the integrated mobile app will enable EV users to plan their routes as per availability of charging points and charge their vehicles on the move.
The 'eHUB platform is introduced for locating, reserving, and paying for charging stations. It has already partnered with leading providers like Adani Total Energies Limited (ATEL), BPCL, Chargezone, Glida, HPCL, Jio-BP, Shell, Statiq, Zeon, and many others who shall be on-boarded soon.
“At this point of time, there are 12,000 DC (Direct Current) in the country and around 8,000-8,500 of them are there on our app, revealed Rajeev Chaba, CEO Emeritus of MG Motor India, adding, “These are all Fast Chargers for passenger vehicles and will be available on our app but will be offered to all brand owners.”
The company has also clarified that chargers operated by Tata Power cannot be used through the eHUB app.
“All companies, which have the maximum real estate space across inter-city highways, have partnered with MG. Moreover, 80 percent of the EV infrastructure partners are with us and these are 30KW and 60KW chargers, said Gaurav Gupta, Chief Growth Officer of MG Motor India.
The company has also partnered with Jio to launch the MG-Jio Innovative Connectivity Platform (MG-Jio ICP), which will be standard in all upcoming MG vehicles. This is a technology stack which introduces the MG App Store for in-car gaming, entertainment, and learning, voice capability in six Indian languages, and a functionality that displays car information on TV screens at home.
The SAIC Motor-backed carmaker has also introduced ‘Project REVIVE’, an initiative in partnership with TERI, Lohum and BatX, for its project REVIVE to repurpose used EV batteries. The carmaker claimed that this initiative promotes a circular economy, a system aimed at eliminating waste and the continual use of resources through principles of reuse, repair, and recycling, and supports India's clean energy goals.
Further, a dedicated EV education and knowledge platform for electric cars -- EVPEDIA -- has also been introduced offering practical tools like the cost of ownership tools and calculators, a repository of government policies, and a collection of publications and research papers, the company said.
“With initiatives such as our unified charging platform, battery second-life project, EV education, and the MG-Jio ICP, we are empowering the industry as well as our customers with smarter, more sustainable choices,” said Gaurav Gupta.
Meanwhile, JSW MG Motor India is gearing to roll out its first electric Cross Utility Vehicle (CUV) Windsor, which will be positioned between the Comet EV and ZS EV.
