International operations commence from Bengaluru airport's T2

International flight operations at Bengaluru's terminal 2 (T2) began on September 12 with the arrival of Saudia airlines. Officials from the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) said that Saudia flight SV866 from Jeddah arrived at T2 of Kempegowda International Airport at 10:15 am, carrying 212 passengers. Saudia flight SV867 will also be the first international departure from T2, scheduled for 11:50 am, heading back to Jeddah.

IndiGo was the first Indian carrier to start international operations from T2 at 12:10pm with its flight 6E1167 to Colombo.

BIAL welcomed the first international passengers arriving at T2 and also held a lamp-lighting ceremony with Saudia and IndiGo airline officials at the airport.

T2 is expected to handle 30-35 daily international departures, serving 27 airlines (25 international and two Indian carriers).  Terminal 1 (T1) will exclusively cater to domestic flights, including Akasa Air, Alliance Air, IndiGo (domestic), and SpiceJet.

Terminal 2 will be dedicated exclusively to all international flights along with domestic flights of AirAsia, Air India, Star Air and Vistara.

Hari Marar, MD & CEO of Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) said “We are thrilled to commence international operations at T2. With its modern infrastructure, efficient processes and diverse retail and dining options, T2 aims to redefine the passenger journey. We look forward to strengthening Bengaluru's global connectivity while upholding the highest safety standards and ensuring a seamless transition for all international passengers”.

Terminal 2, known as a 'terminal in a garden', was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November 2022, with a construction cost of around Rs 5,000 crore. It began domestic operations on January 15, 2023.
