Maha FDA chief pitches for Make in India in food processing

Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Harshdeep Kamble has said the present environment is "conducive" to taking up the government's flagship Make in India programme in the food processing sector. "The food processing sector has immense potential for future growth that needs to be further tapped against the global landscape. The present environment in conducive to Make in India in the sector and needs to be backed by innovation and technology," Harshdeep Kamble said.

He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the 10th edition of 'Fi and Hi India' trade show here yesterday. The only B2B platform for the Indian food and health sectors, the trade show will offer the industry an opportunity to source high-quality ingredients, network with professionals, learn the latest industry trends and innovations and expand their market share. "The food processing industry in India has witnessed rapid augmentation owing to changing socio-economic demographics. The same has led to increased awareness pertaining to the quality standards of food products and consequently, focus on superiority of ingredients that go into the making of these finished products," said Yogesh Mudras, acting MD, UBM India, India's leading live media and events company, on the occasion. "UBM India's objective for the 10th edition of Fi & Hi India is to offer an international showcase of such ingredients and in turn, help leverage the country's wide ranging and large raw material base for food processing industries," he said. The three-day trade show will have a series of panel discussions on global food trends, how they will play out in South-East Asia, cost of non-compliance and the way forward, role of health supplements in healthcare and the like.

The event is supported by the Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries.
