Tata Motors, India’s largest automotive company, today announced that its new yet-to-be-launched sub-4 meter sedan will be called Tigor.

Codenamed Kite 5, this new compact sedan, which will rival Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Ford Figo Aspire is based on the Tiago hatchback platform.

The Tiago is Tata Motors’ largest selling car accounting for more than half its domestic sales. The Tigor will be the third model to be produced from the company’s Gujarat-based plant which also manufactures the Nano.

Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said, “After Hexa, we are speeding towards our next market introduction, the Tata Tigor, which opens a new category of style and attitude in this segment. The break-free design dynamics of Tata Tigor makes it India’s 1st ‘Styleback’. We will announce its commercial launch soon”.

The sedan will be launched before May, as per sources. The company plans to price the car aggressively starting at under Rs 4.5 lakh as per expectations. The Tigor will compete against the Tata Zest, too, which is also a sub-4 meter sedan.
